Although I've gone for the GS forum on this one, my query applies to many more.
My 07 GS is in warranty (UK & European) until September 09, which I believe covers breakdowns (fortunately it hasn't yet) & recovery.
As I'm off to Switzerland shortly, does this BM warranty also cover you for accident recovery? or should I invest in additional cover?
Who does cover your bike for accident recovery?

if you have BMW assist you WILL be covered i found out the hard way last week,
i was on the way back from the millau bridge area when coming off a roundabout and going over a bridge i saw a green light in front at a junction, the sun was behind us so couldn't see the brakelights of the car in front come on as he stopped at a pedestrian crossing 20 feet short of the green light, went straight into the back of it,
anyway to answer your question, the bike was picked up by BMW assist, taken to a local garage, they were going to take it a BMW dealer to assess damage but i asked if the would just repatriate it to my local dealer as i could see it wouldn't be a quick repair, no problems, taken by taxi back to millau to get hire car for the rest of the journey, dropped that in calais, got off ferry and another car was waiting to get me home, all it cost was the fuel i used,
top service and quickish response time as we were about 100 miles from the nearest BMW dealer,
just got to wait a couple of weeks now for the bike to find its way home,

Interesting, one thing to notice is that the repatriate service will only cover €500 as I found out while stuck in Algeciras (Spain).

The nice gentleman on the phone told me that €500 is the maximum BMW Service will cover, the rest will have to be covered by ones travel insurance. I was lucky as suddenly BMW in Algeciras found the spare part which was needed to get my bike back on the road, otherwise I would have had to wait in Spain as I did not have the €1000 extra which was needed to get my back to civilization (and yes I need a new travel insurance, as the one I have sucks).

But apart from the BMW Service does a great job, bike picked up within 40 minutes of my call (on a Sunday), and was delivered at the dealer next morning at 9am...

My 2007 Sept GS 1200 is under warranty until Sept 2009.
The warranty now ONLY covers the bike - NOT you. Read the warranty carefully.

My RT (2005) had warranty with full bike cover and rider accident cover but it appears BMW have dropped the personal cover on current warranties.

I am off to Normandy on Wednesday 3rd June and have taken out a personal accident cover for the period.

An interesting point to consider. If you get ill (not an accident on the bike) you will be taken care of on your Travel Policy (taken out seperately) but what happens to your bike if you have to go to hospital or flown home?

Guess it stays where it is, as it hasn't had an accident or caused you an injury, so it is outside the personal travel cover???

A breakdown policy often covers getting the vehicle to its destination if the only licensed driver/rider is incapacitated for any reason.

As far as accident recovery is concerned, a comprehensive insurance policy on the vehicle will cover that. Some breakdown policies are specifically excluding accident recovery to eliminate any duplication of cover.
