Even if you don’t buy mine - TFT thieving!

It should be down to BMW to fix this issue and fit free of charge, a cosmetically good looking screen guard.
I do not like the looks of this aftermarket one. Although it serves a purpose, it should blend in better for £60. Not cheap!

I also got the same response from Cymarc about expected delays. Whilst there wasn't an indication of when orders would be fulfilled I don't have a problem with this, especially in knowing that it's a small company.

What I think is a bit cheeky, however, is debiting accounts for payment under the situation. That's not really right and proper - this isn't a go fund me transaction.

I have been a little concerned about leaving my GS unattended in a public place as the TFTs do appear to be vulnerable so I bit the bullet for a bit of piece of mind.

Bought a Cymark with shade from Nippy Normans. Very well made and a piece of cake to fit.

Just make the TFT properly removable so the bike is complexly dead without it.

Bit like the old radio head units where you could take the whole unit out or un click the face plate.
:)

It is not BMW issue that people in this country are cvnts. Not much of a problem elsewhere.
Why don't you drop a line to the "Man" with your suggestion on how to make it "blend" better? Lastly. You don't have to buy it, if you wait a bit some Chinese will make the rip off version for £5 on eBay. :comfort

The "Man" tries to help and the only response he gets is whining
PS. one happy customer :thumb2

It’s not whining if it isn’t the same opinion as you!!

I saw one a few months ago and it didn’t fit that well and the edges were a little rough and didn’t blend in with the quality of the BMW finish.
They may have been improved now but the one I saw wasn’t worth the £60 price tag.
Opinion only. That is what these forums are for. So chill....

It’s like a lot security on bikes. You could make a unbreakable steering lock so the frame would be twisted instead. You could make the tft screen much more difficult to remove but at extra damage? If they are being stolen there’s a reason. Is there a market for them? Or as someone said there’s a certain amount of precious metals in them. I’m not convinced about the value of any components after all you can get more information out of a cheap tablet for €50 so what’s the attraction of them. How many have been stolen? JJH

I reckon it wouldn’t be too difficult to code the TFT to the ECU so it would be much more difficult for the thieves (or their customers) to use the screen, which would make the theft uneconomical or at least unattractive. Fundamentally, it’s about making mine less attractive to nick than yours...

And we still don’t know if it’s 1, 10, 100, 1000 that have been nicked...

No, you are a whiner. Send an email to BMW and ask them to sort out the "fault". Quality and finish = BMW:jes
Last one I had was a 95' 100RT, that was not bad.

I have one not fitted to the bike yet but does anybody on this forum actually no someone who has had one stolen . Mark runs a great business , and if you want piece of mind when leaving your bike buy one if not don’t

I was in BMW Chester last week and they had heard of the issue but not heard of any stolen. For what that is worth...

A mate of mine down the pub went into his garage yesterday to find his bike stolen and the TFT left behind on the floor:green gri

Stupid comment. :redbone

Yeh, I've the same message. Need to have a word with the Governor, a stern word, no more fear mongering until they can fill the orders.. :D

Got my shipping advice for this, so should finally be on its way. :fbthumb

My understanding is that BMW do code the TFT to the ECU/bike itself - which makes it even more strange that they are being stolen. Some say for the metals inside, maybe some clever clogs has cracked the coding? Who knows

It may well be something as simple as an opportunist addict stealing something to try and finance their next fix.

Bacon is the usual choice of addict shop thefts. They know how much they will get got a pack and where to sell it. The TFT screens, amongst other things is something they talk about and have an outlet for onward sale. So yes, for a fix, but unlikely opportunist.

I had seen the stolen TFT article in MCN so ordered a Cymarc TFT protector from Nippy Norman's as well as a few other farkles which arrived Friday afternoon by post. I fitted the other farkles first and left the fiddly TFT job until last. I already have the Cymarc screen support brackets fitted to my bike to stabilise my aftermarket Puig screen.
I wondered if they would be 'OK together' with the TFT anti-theft device..as they use the same mounting points. I called the Cymarc telephone number on the packaging half expecting no reply because it was tea time on a Friday afternoon. To my surprise Mark Hooton immediately answered the call, I apologised that it was late and presumed they would be shut up shop and gone home. Mark said "I am at home, now how can I help" ? He was insistant even though it was tea time (but no red wine had yet been consumed).
He asked when I had purchased the screen brackets and to describe them, he advised me that my screen brackets may need a slight modification with a file, even sent me a picture message to my phone as to what area needed modifying.
I did as he suggested and it all worked just tickety-boo. Mark said anymore questions/problems don't hesitate to call with the caveat of "if it got too late the red wine may prevent him from answering the phone".
What a thoroughly decent, polite,
fertile brained, managing director, nothing is too much trouble, type of man he is. Thank you indeed Mr Hooton .
Regarding all the thefts of TFT's..
I read somewhere that some components in the TFT's can be used to somehow unlock Sky boxes, making the channels free, a potential saving of £1000 per annum ! Apparently VW /AUDI built in car sat nav's contain similar components, I don't know if it's just an urban myth ? .

3 people have impressed me this weekend, and the common denominator seems to be they all came from the same area (ish) of the UK, it could be something in the water .

1. Captain Tom..sadly whose funeral was held this weekend came from Keighley originally.
(I know they made him a Honorary Colonel, but a small, some would say childish part of me) wished he had been a 'Major Tom' like in the David Bowie song. A very impressive man. RIP

2. Jonathan Stafford Nguyen Van-Tam...(or JVT ).
the epidemiology, transmission, and vaccinolgy expert off the telly, who despite his Dutch sounding name was born in Lincolnshire. Another very impressive man, with his analogies of the virus... helping us numpties understand the basics of exactly 'where we are at'.

3. Mark Hooton of Cymarc from Scunthorpe.. Another very impressive intelligent helpful man.
Which brings me nicely to my final childish question...people of a certain age may well remember an advert on TV from the 1980's that used to say " Typhoo put the 'T' in Britain" . which begs the question....so who put the '****' in Scunthorpe... answers on a postcard to UKGSers.
