ex demos

Something to consider with demo machines:

When a punter specs a new bike the dealer selects the options requested by him/her.

Dealer option button selects all the available options so they are normally top spec.

I wouldn't be concerned about the treatment they receive on demo's. It does seem that those owners who have ridden their bikes hard from early days are no more prone to problems than those that were gently run-in (some say quite the reverse).

Any problems that do surface will still be covered by BMW warranty anyway.

I bought an ex-demo. Didn't have any problems that I would put down to it being a demo. I'd say that it would be better to go for a good private second hand one - probably cared for better than a demo.

I would have bought an ex-demo from Balderstons in Peterborough, small dealers and nice service, but Wallastons in Northampton were cheaper for a brand new bike the same spec. That was January, but my advice is to phone around before parting with your mauves...

I've got an ex-demo 1200GS which I'm very pleased with. Just make sure you get a deal you're happy with (I bought mine with a new set of luggage so was able to strike a deal on the lot) and have a phone around dealers up and down the country to compare.

Good luck.

I bought an ex-demo last Dec, 9 months old with only 900 miles on the clock. Dealers will often be seeking to sell on their demo bilkes over the Autumn / Winter so they can register shiny new demos in March. As this is quieter period for most bike shops there are deals to be done !

I'm glad to read the positive comments to your question. I have just bought an ex-demo GS1200 from Jeffries in Shipley. Fingers crossed it works out! :D
