I'm really just curious here, but I've been asked (or tasked if you like!!) to find out what the score is with the bikes used in Long way round/Long way down. Are they now owned by BMW, by a dealership or a private individual, or have they been taken apart by BMW for analysis (or what was left of them anyway, lol).
I'm also curious as to what extras had been fitted to all of the various bikes........:augie:drool

Books

If you checkout the books LWR and LWD at the back they have a long list of all the stuff from the trips from bike bits to camera gear.Charley Boormans bikes were at the NEC although im not convinced they were the real mcoy certainly the 1150gsa had a standard rear pipe fitted me thinks....:Motomartin

The bike Ewan rode on the LWD was recently in Bristol Motarrad on display with a paper clip of the trip and it was a prize in a comp run by someone. Not sure who as I did not pay that much attention to it. Again unless you seen the V5 who knows if it was the actual bike. But then again if I remember correctly their was a photo copy of the V5 showing Ewan's name!:)

On that same weekend, the "same" bike was at South London Motorrad! :rob

ah the plot thickens :comfort

Indeed it does and i love my 1150gsa and know its a tough bastewered but if it went round the world like theirs did me thinks it would be in a much more Sh.t state than the so called boorman bike i saw at the NEC.:Motomartin

The bikes at the South London open day were Charlie Boormans , not Ewan McGregors . They all looked pretty genuine to me . The 1150 still had the 'bubblegum' weld repair on the rear frame and they all looked fairly well used but relatively undamaged as I would have expected .:comfort

They all look genuine enough! And why shouldn't they! Tsssssh tsssh all you non believers! Why does there have to be a conspiracy theory?

I do love this forum - there is always fun to be had but I hadnt reckoned on conspiracy theory. :)

We all know (dont we?) that the dynamic duo had whole bike replacements during LWR - check the footage and notice the miraculous new and gleaming machinery where moments before they were rat bikes.

Now that isnt a conspiracy it is based on the extreme lengths that BMW went to, to ensure success. They had their top techies plus more parts than you need to build a floatilla of bikes on constant standby and whizzing around the World to maintain the brand image as seen by us punters.

Conspiracy - no. Good marketing - yes.

BUT, the bikes are tough as old boots and the fellas still had to put the hours in.

Fox Mulder. :green gri

So you are saying that 1200's finish is tougher that your 1150's, sounds fair:)
