Ex-ORS 1200GS WC

You also have to factor in the lower value when you come to sell it yourself as its an ex-ORS bike.

Only if the unsuspecting potential new owner is told about its history. Otherwise, how would they know?

I bought an ex ORS 12GS for £6k a couple of years ago, and that was a bargain. Spent £1k on it, rode it for the winter, and made £1k on top. BMW were also very generous, as they gave me a new final drive for it.:augie

IIRC, the ex ORS LC is now around £9k, before you've changed any panels, so IMO is no longer a bargain.

The bike is £8600 so far from a bargain. It looks in better condition than the last ex-ORS bike I bought, which I still have incidentally. I get the feeling that Bahnstormer probably have another buyer lined up if I pull out which probably explains why they don't seem bothered if I buy the bike or not, certainly judging from the replies I've had from Alistair the boss.

The original advert stated the bike had a chrome exhaust which it turns out not to have. When I pointed this out they told me they wouldn't be honouring the advert and fitting a chrome exhaust, and said my only option was to have my deposit back. I was always led to believe that the product should be as advertised.

I'll wait and see what they find with the gearbox and then make a decision, but I agree with what most people are saying. BMW can't seem to put a foot wrong at the moment, what with the RnineT selling out and their other bikes getting rave reviews so the dealers probably feel that they don't have to work as hard to keep your custom.

Been reading with interest.. Erm..

Seen a bike without chrome exhaust the other day, very nice, the chrome on my exhaust is far from perfect.. If I had the choice again I would go for non chrome..

I have a 6 month old GS WC with wire wheel option, 1100miles, £14,400 otr.. Was offered 11,000 as trade in for GSA which I didn't do, so may give you an idea the difference between the ORS & a normal bike, a good saving but remember people using & abusing other peoples vehicles without a care in the world doesn't go good for long term reliability.

Good luck

Bahnstormer have a 2013 GS WC with similar mileage on their website for £11795 which it says has active and premium packages, so a similar spec to the ORS bike. If I were to get the bike I intend it to be a keeper, but then I thought that about the last one

I'm not selling mine at the minute as I'm quite liking it, it's a TE spec, but have you thought about a wanted on here.? I'm sure there will be people like me that considered a GSA, I prob would have had a go at 12k & you'll prob get a nice low milage looked after keeper..

You should expect to take a 30% hit as soon as you drive any new vehicle out of the showroom.

Your figures show a 23.6% hit for 6 months of ownership. Whats wrong with that?

Good point , almost purchased this HP2 in 2006...until I found ( research ) out that is was also a press bike and it had a bit of a fire problem. On the other had it was very cheap almost £5600:eek and probably a bit more now:rolleyes:

Good review

I didn't actually say anything was wrong with that, I was giving paulR something to compare against..
But now u mention it, was paying full price for new GSA TE, not any discount at all, & fair enough, I was the one asking to POSSIBLY purchase.. But it's a bit harsh when they expect full retail on one hand & don't get a tempting trade in on the other...
I'm sure it was a starting point & the dealers are gonna start low.. Don't blame them.. I remember it as haggling..
Remember also there is no work needed doing to my bike, no servicing that's gonna be charged to the sales dept, no pain chips to rectify, no expensive road fund tax to 'include in the deal' if new punter buys it today etc..

At last I've got my bike, I picked it up on Monday :thumby:
Bahnstormer fitted a new clutch and gearbox which has certainly done the trick, the gear change feels really good now, as you'd expect. They also threw in a vario topbox as way of thanking me for my patience.

Here's a pic before I get the polish out...

Nice one Paul, that looks good. Is there much damage?

It's not too bad at all. I'm going to swap the silencer with the one I bought off you and I'm going to get the tank panels resprayed. Other than that, it just needs a few plastic bits changed, spark plug covers and handguards mainly. I think it was worth the wait

That's good. Is it the TE?

It's virtually TE spec, I think the only thing it hasn't got is the led headlamp.
