Excellent Value Metal Panniers

They look great, except that it looks like you've got to remove the topbox to open/close the lids. I've got a Givi Maxia E52 too and that's the reason why I went for the TT (cheaper in France!) instead of Metal Mule. I couldn't see myself having to take the topbox off everytime I needed access to one of the panniers.

So, share with us the price you paid for the TTs in Frogland then!

That's exactly my dilemma at the moment - I've got an E52 too and tempted by the Metal Mule panniers. The snag is that the E52 gets in the way when trying to open the lids. On the other hand, the reason for the E52 was to plonk our helmets in while looking at the sites. To do this the E52 would be empty so not so much of an issue if we need to get into the panniers.

Anyone else had a successful time using non system panniers with the E52?

You can open / close the lids on these panniers with the Givi E52 Maxia top box fitted. The lids do catch slightly but you can still open / close them without removing the top box. :)

€884 for the 41L special system (that's their list price, no special discount). That's around £606. It's £709 on the Touratech UK website. Which means about 15% cheaper. I don't think they would ship to the UK, but if you've got a friend in France... :clap

Good to know this, it makes them even more attractive.

They are fine looking boxes the only suspect bit I don't like the look of is the lockable catch. Surely a screwdriver or pair of pliers would open out the hook part opposite end to the lock where it is held onto the black bracket .A spot of weld on there would have made it much more secure.
Hope you get on ok with them sertainly look the business.

Have a look at Boz's weblog, his have just had an extreme test! :eek

here's a pic of the boxes on my bike, kinda 'industrial-chic' cool I reckon ...

locks are virtually the same as touratech for an extra £300 quid, think could find alot of locks for that. :thumb

You may find a lot of locks but you may not find your nice panniers .

Take a look at retromans look fantastic but how much effort would it take to twist or bend the hook part over the black lug nothing to do with the lock, that could be the best lock in the world.
Saying that I guess if somebody wants them bad enough they'll have them no matter what.

I think you guys are missing the point ... the locking system means that you can remove the panniers in seconds, then carry 'em like suitcases to wherever - carrying handles are on the lids.

Can you retain the standard system rails? I'm looking for some large panniers but as the system setup is fine most of the time was thinking of getting some global lids but these, if I can retain the rails would seem like an ideal alternative.

Answer is no.

Get a pair of these babies and the system panniers become surplus. That being said, I've kept mine to sell with the bike when the time comes because the locks are common with the ignition barrel.

Here they are fitted to a GS12 36/41 firstly from the front:- They are about 3" wider than the handlebars
