Hi all, bought a Y piece and carbon can a while back to fit to my 1150GS ADV. Had a go at fitting it but struggling to get the can off. There is a stainless cover over the join and although Ive undone the clamp bolt and the main clamp, the can is solid. Am i missing another clamp somewhere? Cheers in advance. Steve

As long as you’ve undone the clamp on the cat and the bolt on the subframe then the can should come off. It might take a lot of wiggling and maybe a rubber mallet to help it on it’s way but it will come off. Ever read “the giant turnip”?

Yeah yeah, was a lame question but didnt want to hammer the crap out of it if there was another clamp somewhere. Never heard of the 'giant turnip' :D Ahhh just seen the pic come up, been a few years since I read that lol

Had the same problem, big rubber/hard Plastic Mallet and 20 mins later pop off it came.. Cleaned it; put on the new Y-piece - jobs a goodun.

Just thought id put the can on for now. Ive read somewhere that putting on the Y piece can cause it to run too hot?

Put the hammer down before you break something, use vice grips to squeeze the clamp open. Unscrew the nut till it's just past the end of the threads. Place one jaw of the vice grips on the nut and the other one on the end of the clamp closest to the nut.

Had the same problem myself a couple of months ago.

Too late. Hammered the can off eventually with a plastic mallet after about an hour! Bent the chrome end cover slightly but its gone back into shape ok. I offered the new can to the pipe and guess what? its too big  So it looks like ill have to put the Y peice on too. My next question is:- anyone know what size the torx is that bolts the cat either side of the main stand? Looks like ill have to buy a set :blast

Not sure on the size but suggest you buy an entire set of Torx bits – you will end up needing them in the long run. Good luck. Oh and I did say rubber rather than plastic mallet BTW:rolleyes:

Yeah guess your right. Quite often need torx bits. Only used a plastic mallet cos it was either that or a lump hammer. :D

You’ll need a 22mm spanner (IIRC) to get the lamda sensor out of the cat. Might as well pick one up whilst shopping for the Torx bits if you haven’t got one:thumb2

Used to be a mechanic so got loads of kit (except for rubber mallet and torx bits lol) but rarely used torx on cars. :D
