Hi, Does anyone know the dimentions of the exhaust tube that fits where the exhuast flapper valve is, its fitted between the downpipes & can on 2011 R1200GS twin cam
Kyrano, if you're thinking of ditching the flap valve, you may want to take the bike to a local high-street shop that does exhaust repairs / replacements.
With a section of stainless tube in the right dimensions, a pipe bender, a pipe-flaring rig and TIG welding gear, it should be no more than half a days' work.
I would have them cut off the existing tube at the silencer itself, and weld in a new, seamless section of tube that mates to the header outlet.
I don't own a Camhead bike, but you may want to post a piccy or two for the benefit of those peeps who'd want to do the same... I understand that the exhaust flap was not a popular addition to the R-series engine.
I'm not too familiar with the whole setup... but as long as you delete the flap chamber without interfering with the electric servomotor used for actuation, you shouldn't register any fault codes.
Maybe tuck what's left behind the left-hand-side pull-off panel, just behind and below the fuel tank?
...Alternatively, maybe there's some hack that can be done using a GS911 that would allow you to disconnect the electric servomotor altogether?
Camhead experts, feel free to step in.
disconnecting the servo motor throws up a fault and disconnecting the cables throws up a different fault.
The servo motor can rotates 180 deg. with no cables, and the flapper valve can only rotate 90 deg.
So the controller is looking for 90 deg. of movement, any more and it throws up a fault code.
Strangely is does not report any faults in the movement is less than 90 deg. like when the valve is sticking?
Either way it is only a code and the bike will run just the same.
I replaced my flappy valve with a piece of stainless tube and removed the cables from the servo motor but left the leccy plug still connected. I've had no lights on or problems since . Nothing was mentioned at the last service either and its still under warranty.
