I think it's almost impossible to keep the original headers looking like new, unless your prepared to spend more time cleaning than riding.

Looking at other GS's it seems most of us accept that the pipes will tarnish and that it's not the end of the world.

What sort of price are they?

Are you looking at hours of labour to change them or can a competent amateur do them?

The verdict - Autosol and elbow grease has got rid of the tarnishes easy. I read that it was best to dampen the application cloth first and then keep applying the autosol as necessary - worked fine.
