Just wondering what exhaust options there are for fitting full size panniers on an 1100GS?

I presume a stubby won't fit, so is there anything else out there?

Maybe me being ignorant, but why won't a stubby fit?

you can't do this with the OE 1100 exhaust... its different in design to the 1150.

I thought most aftermarket exhausts for the 1100GS came in a high or a low form.. Staintune does..

Can u not have a stubby type exhaust made up, a one off, I can't remember how different my old 1100 is to the 1150, :blast

The 1100 exhaust is a one piece, so no slip on can to take off and replace with the stubby IIRC :thumb

It's definitely one piece.
The collector box / cat housing which sits behind the sump is welded up to the pipe.

Also as far as I'm aware, the other main reason that stubbies work on 1150's (apart from there being a joint in the system which allows their fitting) is that 1150's have a cat which provides useful sound attenuation (the stubby fits after the cat). Most uk 1100's don't have a cat (they have an empty box where one would fit) so even if it were possible to fit a stubby, it would be unacceptably loud and would probably completely stuff the fuelling.

yes, I'm pretty sure it's a one piece. I also have a remus pipe but I think that's a one piece.

AFAIK there are two options with the Remus for the 1100. A straight through pipe, which is noisier than the link that has a "silencing" chamber. At a guess if you used the pipe only it would deafen people a few miles away, but with the link + chamber it might work like the 1150's stubby system.

In either case the Remus 1100 system is similar to the 1150's in that there is an end can, intermediate pipe and the headers. Whereas the BM system is only two pieces, header and then end can with a lump on it. Maybe the end can could be hacksawed from the lump to give a similar stubby system as the 1150?

Get some of Vern's worldbeaters. The exhaust cutout is pretty small on the 1100 - you won't need more space ;)

I already have a set of pelican cases which I used on my old VStrom which I'd like to use again. So either I go with one case out wider or figure out a lower/stubby exhaust.

The cases look reasonably slim - personally, I'd go with the one case out wider option and save hacking about with the exhaust (as noted above, not so straightforward on the 1100).

Yeah might be the best option. The cases from another angle. Great bit of kit and they cost me under £100.

As I said above.. Staintune do a fully stainless, low mount exhaust system for the R1100GS - that allows you to fit full size panniers.. the exhaust system is a snip at £531

heres a pic.. on an 1150. but it looks the same on the 1100.
