OK, a questions pleeze....

R80g/s mono - what valve clearances to use?

Me Clymer says 0.10mm inlet; 0.20mm exhaust

Me Haynes says 0.10mm inlet; 0.20mm exhaust

Me Rider's Handbook says 0.10mm inlet, but 0.15mm exhaust

Soooo, inlet pretty clear, but which exhaust figure to use?

Any thoughts? Ta... :thumb2

The valve clearances were originally 0.15mm but were revised to 0.2mm - Not sure when but the factory still had them at 0.15 in July 1983. If I had to guess I'd say it was around 85 when they went to the unleaded heads :thumb2

Cheers Rob! I've gone with the 0.20 figure as Scrimingers did the unleaded conversion on mine.

I've checked them as the revs have been staying up for a few seconds when coming to a stop (usually only when the engine's hot). I also checked the plugs and one was looking decidedly black and sooty. On that cylinder the inlet valve clearance was very tight, so I don't know if the clearance was indeed the issue or whether the carbs need a good stripdown and clean. I'll find out tomorrow!

I think the revised 0.2 figure applied to the early machines as well. I prefer 0.18 as they run quieter and just check them often.

I have a suspicion that the revs staying high on my bike might be the rev counter that is slow to reduce / is sticky, going off what the charge light is showing on the dash.
