I have just recieved my full remus exhaust system for my 2010 1200 GS, and about to fit it.
Has anyone done this already and if so what do you do with the exhaust valve that is bolted to the side of the original exhaust ? Is it just a case of removing it ?

Regards Steve.

Does Your Pipe...

...Have an oriface in which to insert your thingy?

I have not inspected any R series 2010 exhaust systems but must ask: is it the lambda sensor to which you are referring?
If so. I would put it back in or you'll find your bike's fuel economy going through the roof.

Did you receive any instructions with the system you are installing?

I'd speak to the Geezer who sold it to you and ask for some advice.

As already stated if you have brought a 2010 exhaust than just remove the cables from the motor control box takes mins to do and the valve will stay open all the time, so follow the cables back to the control box(its by the gear linkage) undo the front mount screw and unplug wiring con and slide the the control box out, now remove the screw on the rear cover, and flip cover off and remove cables, and refit and plug the wiring plug back on, sorted :thumb i did run mine without even putting the control box back on and no lights came on the dash to suggest a fault.
Now if you have brought a 2008/2009 system you wont need the valve at all.

Ape, seems there's abit of debate as too what the gains are, as some peeps state the valve is only there to pass noise regs and when left open it sounds a deeper tone and some say it helps low down performance in a similar way the exup valve does and that does make sense, there's so many reason as too what it does id suggest you unplug cables and go for a blast than stick the cables back on do the same run and see the difference if any for yourself.

I myself cant say what it does as ive got full ako headers..

LBL why did you remove the cables if you retained the original headers. Do you think it makes any difference ? I fitted a Akro end pipe but didn't consider removing the control box.

At first with the original end can it was just for the noise, it sounded quicker, therefore i believed it was quicker :)

Once i had fitted the Bos can, it sounded even faster again, and it was, with more pull low down and in the middle, i dont believe that with the new twin cam the headers will make too much differance. My friend brought my complete remus system off me and put them on his 09GSA and when we went out for a ride he was amazed how much better his bike was, but it was no quicker than me running in my bog standard new twin cam :thumb2

Wow...

...They are using exhaust valves now!

What next, tyre pressure sensors?

I hope your system roars like a lion. :thumb2

Hi Steve,
if your system is for the 2010 GS Models and not just a Remus system, then Remus have redesigned the new 2010 headers and silencer to allow for the exhaust noise valve to be fitted.

Removing the valve is simple enough job, but you lose the low down torque that this valve system is design to give you. It is a simple version of a 2 stroke power valve to allow the torque curve to be perfect and remain strong for longer than without.. Also it reduces some noise.

Below is what the new system looks like and the part number…

Thanks for that Svenski.
It is the new headers from Remus, i have not taken them out of the box yet though, thats why i asked the original question.

Regards Steve.

Cat removal?

Has anybody removed the CAT from a 2010 headers?
I did on my 08 model and the bike pulls much better from far lower down add the Apro can and I felt mine was quicker than a new 2010 I tested.
