Exhaust ... whats quieter, cooler and lighter than standard

I've heard the Remus Freeride and they are LOUD:augie

I have a Remus Revolution, mit Cat and it's 2kg lighter, no hotter and as quiet as stock..................carbon end too

Quite easy to take the Cat out of the stock exhaust as long as you know someone who can weld stainless. The actual joint is behind the heat shield any way so the re-weld isn't easy to see. Makes the exhaust a little lighter, runs maybe a little cooler :thumb

Anyone know what the Akro header pipe and none Cat exhaust sound like on these 'ere XC's

Which model Remus do you have?

Not sure on the model as it came with the bike. It's an alloy main body with a carbon end "cone" I'll have a look in the morning an let you know

Italian?

Had the GPr a year and the stainless qualitys good, great tone with end baffle no lower baffle fitted without being nasty loud.

I think you may find it loud, even with baffle in!:(
Shame because they fit well and look good......
I'm going to try to make another baffle for mine.

How do you get at the innards to add another baffle?

You used to be able to get "Dirt dog" or "Dirt dawg" silencer inserts, that slipped in the end of your existing can, and then tightened up with a few grubs screws.

cnc'd alluminium- so quite trick_ and cost about £30. Fitted one to my husky tc610, and it really to the edge of it's bark (didn't stop the flames on overrun though :D )

Drill the rivets out at the noisey end and pull the end cap off....
That's tomorrows job for me....

Right, job done.....
The glass fibre wadding had blown away to almost nothing.
Repacked and riveted up, fairly easy task for my limited skills......;)
The baffle has gone back in too.

I'll try it on tonight...... to keep me out of the pub.:beerjug:

You should offer this as a service looks like a good job done, have you got a photo when finished?
If I could have found someone to weld stainless (is that TIG welding) would have done the conversion instead of replacing it, the originals pretty well made so it makes sense,
just a thought being cheeky, can you do mine !! ?

Not got a close up photo, but if I'm messing about tomorrow I'll put one on for ya, but in reality you don't need one. The joint is well hidden behind the cover anyway ;)

I just wrapped the exhaust up well so as not to scratch it and with a hacksaw went round the silencer right at the side of the original weld. The silencer body then came away from the front bit leaving the cat still fastened to the front bit. During assembly the cat just protrudes through a hole in the baffle and is only welded at it's base at the lower end!

Then cut the cat off, difficult to saw through the ceramic bits, which leaves about a quarter inch left in ... knock this out and clean up. Re-assemble with the help of a good stainless steel welder and hey presto ... sorted :thumb

Weigh the cat in ... keeps the tea fund going for a few weeks

No noticeable gain in performance, no noticeable difference in sound ... but what the 'eck :JB

Is the baffle the bit held in with the screw at the end? I've just fitted my Scorpion exhaust, a hell of a lot lighter than the original, but definitely louder. Whether it's too loud I will find out this weekend. Looks nice too.

Yes, that's the 'baffle' as they call it, it is more like the dB killer. It does take a bit of the bark away.....

Plenty of bark left with it in, although nothing to compare with the amazing din of no exhaust (had to be done, but when I turned the engine off, I could hear echoes of the racket returning from the surrounding buildings). I reckon I might put some packing in between the baffle and the innards of the can if I can't cope with the racket.

I think I have the naff one that Shugie didn't like. I got the GPR because it was cheap, solid and legal. Also the Leo Vince was out of stock everywhere and I couldn't wait. I have heard the Leo makes an improvement in fuel economy but not so much power. My 2 cents on the GPR. It is actually solidly made from stainless and nicely made internals. It's not a straight through exhaust, it has a mid-way block to make it road legal. However the end baffle is completely removable. It also has a removable link section with an optional decibel killer. I have it with both baffles for now. It's not loud, at least it's not offensive. It's lighter than standard but not a great deal, about a third lighter but they're stuffed with metal so they are quite heavy. The noise is acceptable, it's not as deep as I would have liked but it's ok. It sounds strangely like it's blowing from the end of the can. I have put my first 100 miles on it, ie a tank and it runs with a bit more power, not a quantum leap improvement but the bike runs freely and has a bit more life in it. Fuel economy seems about the same although I've only put one tank in and a lot of that was running with a pillion through town. Still giving more miles per tenner than just about anything. Will keep my eye on the economy and experiment with removing the DB killer too. I think it would benefit from a K&N filter too. I have done the airbox mod too, she runs better now.

ARMA,

When you said 'It also has a removable link section with an optional decibel killer.' Do you mean that It's got a third DB killer that can be fitted inside the pipe?
I just bought the stainless steel GPR Pipe with two DB killers that come with. One at the end and a cone. I mount it with them in it but the exhaust makes too much noise for me! Much more than the original.
The DB killer at the end is about 12cm long on mine and made of a straight open tube.
I 'm waiting for a new DB killer from the Ebay shop to offer me less noise. Hope it help!
Could you tel me how long is yours?
Other think I noticed is that the lever that holds the pipe and screwed on the frame is a cheap stuff. Later on I think the pipe won't hold in place and I'm scare It'll come loose and makes the header pipe touch the air cooling hose causing a leak.
We'll see.
Thanks

Got a chance to "nip out" today, just to check if I'd fitted the exhaust correctly. A bit louder on the move, but not objectionable, no reports from home that it was any louder than usual. Improves the acceleration quite noticeably though, so must be a lot more free-flowing.

I wonder if i'ts worth the job to stop feeling the heat coming from the left legs?
