Hi all!

After years of snooping the forum for help I thought it was about time I was sociable and throw in my two bob.

I got my pride and joy from Barnstormer's around March last year and have done around 20k on her since then, and had a bit of a spill in Feb on some ice, which bent my crash bars about an inch to the right. After a beautiful summer out every day I thought as the weather set in, and my new car arrived it was time for some TLC!

(ill try and get the pics in in order, bite me if it's wrong :P )

First thing was first, the crash bars and pannier frame all needed either a) replace the crash bars or b) have them powder coated to remove some of the crap and neaten them up. Naturally I went for the cheaper option and took a pile of silver bits to Trestans Powder Coating in Totton, Southampton. For the pile of bits I was quoted a mere £100! :beerjug: I'll get back to you with the quality.

Once they were off, I started tinkering with the exhaust as the chrome exhaust had a lot of corrosion and I needed to replace the exhaust flap with a blank pipe, and the manifold was starting to lose its chrome etc etc etc (cue abuse for the lack of ACF 50!)....

I thought I would wrap it after seeing the RNineT with a wrapped exhaust when it came out. I know everyone has mixed feelings but since the whole bike is going some shade of black it would suit!
Applying it was a complete b*****d! the videos you see on you tube are usually old choppers that maybe have two corners in the pipe, not changes in direction, splitting, diameter changes mid turn etc, but after much cursing it was on! here's it just drying up...

It was quite a sight when the bike was drying it, I nearly had a heart attack seeing the steam, but all is well now!

just thought I'd throw in my insights into the world of wrapping, looks good so far, and to accompany it I've just *ACCIDENTALLY* bought a Remus Hexacone to go on the end. Merry Christmas me :thumb2:thumb2

More than welcome to hear comments, questions or heckling, just thought I'd see what the masses think? :beerjug:

i wrapped some headers off a old xjr1300 i bought that where rusty as hell, it looked ok and certainly tided up the bike but like you, it was quite alarming the ammount of smoke on the first start up !!

Secondhand headers are available for not much money in the for sale section here. For Gods sake take that bloody awful steampunk hipster hardly ferguson bobber affectation lagging off. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but there are limits. :barf:barf:barf:barf:barf

I wrapped the headers on my ccm and they looked great....I had 2 issues with it....
when it rains the wrap gets wet....the steam on startup was crazy...
it might look good when first on but after a few hundred miles it goes white and looks crap....

That's what I thought. Wrapped headers are for show, not for go. And the wrapping creates a great environment for corrosion as soon as it gets wet.

the ccm is a single cylinder and the pipe runs very close to my right leg...the pipe gets really really hot and got fed up with burning my leg
so by wrapping it that helped...but that's the only reason I kept it on....looked crap tho but did the job...I wouldn't recommend it for any other reason...

Keep watch on the For sale section. Only recently there was a Remus header for very little money.
BTW, pre flap valve headers will fit the later bikes. Mountings are identical.

Just a quick side note on Bendy's post.
You can fit a pre flap header to your TC but you'll need a pre flap silencer to go with it.
Look for a TC header if you want to keep that Remus.
SC and TC systems will both fit as a complete system but can't be mixed and matched easily. Unless you're good with a welder!

haha, I knew there'd be a few that wouldn't like it! It did immediately start to discolour when it dried up, but I've ordered a Black heat sealant which will should keep it dark and provide a bit of protection for the wrap itself. I only threw it on to see if it would work and how it looked, I'm not going to rule out getting a new pipe, if you don't try these things, you'll never know :rob
I was looking at some of these ceramic coated bits, i'll maybe look at that when I'm a millionaire ;)

Interesting reading about the headers, I think i'll approach that speed bump when this one cracks and corrodes because it's covered in bandages...
