Exhausts and the backfire?

I'm getting a bit nobbed off with the backfire on my 1150 with Y-piece and standard can. What are my options canwise? Are there any after market cans that don't cost a fortune and that are as quiet as the standard that will cure the backfire? Maybe I should find a catalyser instead of the Y-piece? Can I modify the OE can?
Appreciate any advice.....................

IIRC the thinking is that the end can and y piece should "match". That is, they are designed to have similar flow characteristics, the easy way is to have an end can made by whoevever made your y piece.

But and its a big one, I used to have the same set up as you with the same problem, so I fitted an end can on that was made by the same manufacturer as the y piece with no difference

On a different bike I've the Bos y piece, end can and chip and it only makes very small farts at worst

Even heavier if you put an end can on....So just leave it off and run a cat on its own. You can fit a full size pannier that side too then.

Yes, I run a Remus 'Y' piece and Remus end can and quite like the ocasional backfire, I just wish I could control when they happen, I get best results with a feathered throttle....

Mine goes off like a ferkin Howitzer! Usually just as I come flying merrily round a corner and have to slow suddenly for a Horse. Kaboom.......EEK!

That work does it? Not obscenely loud? My ears are old and bent and can't take big noises. If it works that sounds like a good idea, I could source a CAT and bin the CAN. Better CofG too

Well I have used a similar thing in other groups, just find someone who lives 100 miles away and meet up, they then move it to another person etc... Good exscuse for a ride, but it is prolly too big for a pannier so bungies will have to do.

I guess it is just as easy to post it...

Quieter than a road legal Remus and Y-peice....Oh and no backfire at all.

I didn't find the CAT to be that much heavier then the Y piece. The Can is heavier. I'm still running it CAT+ ! CAN and still think it's the best setup; you don't notice the CAT weight because it's so low - but you do notice the removal of the CAN. It also passed an MOT without the can - not loud at all.

Just one word of warning.....Put he can back on if you plan doing something stupid like taking the bike through a ford as if you stall and the endpipe is below the water.......

I'll have to make a heavy duty version of one of those snorkels with a ping pong ball in it that you buy on holiday and never use
