Exhausts, noise and legality

I think so............. But I could be wrong.
I was sure they said they would make them in any of the commonly used materials when I rang them:nenau

Seen one exhaust and it apparently has a BS stamp but not the "E" markings.

They say it's road legal in the UK but not Europe

I've heard the Germans can be awkward on non OEM silencers etc, but has anybody been actually pulled by them, and they had a good look at the exhaust? And was it a problem?

Planning on going through southern Germany next year to get to the Dolomites.

Rode my 1980 CBX 6 cylinder down a narrow walled city street. Open velocity stacks on Smoothbore Mikunis & 6-6 Pipemaster exhaust system. You can't keep it quiet...:augie
Two coppers on the pavement never blinked an eye....Mind you, I spotted them & kept it down as much as I could, as one does....

Luckily, there is no MOT in France for bikes as yet... supposed to change in the next couple of years, but then they cant make it retrospective as old bikes cant conform to new specs and anyway,

same in this country for 1980 or less i think. you can have straight through if you want. lucky me :thumb

I've never been pulled here on a UK bike for a noisy exhaust. Been stopped for lane splitting (Ahem..filtering) , despatch riding techniques and crap wheelies on my Supertraped DR600. Been stopped on my GS to be advised the brake light was broken. At all times I've found the German police polite and very easy to deal with, total gents. I'd be very supprised if you had problems especialy with a UK Plate. The paperwork alone would take them a week to fill in!!!!

That's usefull to know :)

I guess they don't want people taking the p1ss and as long as it has some markings, but not the "Not for road use" then they can say it complies with the state the bike is registered in.

BTW how do you ride a bike with a UK plate in Germany, or does it come back to the UK every now and then :augie

I tried to register the DR600 a few times but was turned away from the TUV inspection as it was modified. So I left it on a UK Plate and just rode it in summer. That made me wonder how so many local choppers and modified bikes make it onto the roads here? Now I live here full time, I have bought a left hand drive GS and have it on a german plate. Much better easier to blend in. It will be interesting to see if I get stopped if I come to the Gents W/end. Last time I came over in my car (German Reg) I stopped in a small garage in the middle of nowhere in the Fens. Handed over my German credit card to pay for fuel and was told that I spoke very good english but with a strange accent, cheeky sod.:rob
