Had an 1150 adv for 2 months now and have found the centre stand grounds out particularly 2 up ( combined weight is 21st ) even with preload wound right up.

This limits your lean angles before the tyre starts to slide because the stand is levering you off the tarmac ? Happens on both sides.

I have had a slide 1 up where the stand just touched down on the right but the tyre was sliding first.

Does anyone here have similar experiences or is there more to be had from this bike - do the pots grind ?

No bars fitted to mine and everything is standard.
Pressures 2 up 36/44, damping in the middle.
Tyres - Tourances with plenty of tread.

If you aren't fully loaded 44 is a bit high...particularly in a hot place and with a bit of 'spirited riding' going on. :D

Damping in 'the middle'? IIRC standard is max 'hard' - 1 turn. I'd be turning the damping up a bit. :)

Sounds more like the shock in knackered unless your name is Valentino.....:P
Even fully loaded in the Pyrenees last summer on fresh tyres I never manage to grind the centre stand. The Pegs would be first to touch before the stand so maybe your center stand spring needs replacing to make it pull up out the way better.

The bikes 12 months old and has done 21,000 so I think the shocks are ok.

And the stand is fine, as I said it was levering the tyre up on sunday but the pegs were fine.

Maybe I'll take the stand off and see what happens.

Phooey...

I did this and nothing was touching down... your either a god or your suspensions knackered

Before junking the shocks...I'd still try increasing the rebound - in the hard direction. :)

Now THAT is what a tyre SHOULD look like :)

You up for a little spin so as I can have a look at your 'method' ??

Haven't touched mine down with close to 40 stone on board......

Either I don't go round corners or your shock's fekked.
:)

I used to deck the centre stand out all the time – in the end I removed it but now I find I’m grinding the cylinder heads. On my third set already – getting expensive now:rolleyes:

Blimey Bill, didn't realise you weighed 40 stone! you hide it well :D

Two up, with camping gear clothes etc etc.......gotta be close.
Yeah , I'm a fat git , ok???

PS shouldn't you be in Westmister doing something useful for the community??

Im gettin kinda pissed off by the " I can ground more bits of my GS than you can" brigade, and then ask a innocent wee question about , if anyone else has this problem. You are just showing off .. admit it.
Then piss off back to yer fireblades where you can impress folk with yer antics , and buy lots of blue anodised screws and carbon fibre bits, because you are wastin your time here.
We are beyond that stage. If we were seriously impressed by this we wouldnt have the bikes which we do.
Look around the bike park at any race meeting. There are more folk looking at back tyres than anything else. " must be a bit of a poof, look at his chicken strips ". No wonder there are so many arseholes buried in the ground because they tried to impress their so called biker mates with their biking prowess.

Thats it ... now feck off.

And before I go, yes, we all like to impress sometimes. Its human nature.
I recently posted on the chicken strip thread about having ex race scrubbed tyres on me triumph. Felt good when people looked at them and commented.
But they were still arseholes !!!

What a grumpy old Den. I’ll send you my worn out tyres if you ask nicely:D

Den,
chill a bit.

I don't want to 'impress' anyone I am simply trying to get some info from more experienced, skillful and knowledgeable riders than myself. If I can learn something by picking thier brains, seeing what kit thier bikes run on or watching them ride - then I will. I haven't ignored your good advice here either ( so many arseholes buried in the ground because they were trying to impress thier mates... ), but I want to learn. My biking enjoyment is enhanced by knowledge.

There will ALWAYS be someone faster than you, I don't try to race ppl who are clearly quicker than me - but if I can leave less 'knowledgeable' riders ( by using better observation and positioning ) then yes, I get a certain satisfaction from that.

Maybe they should do some learning ?

Come for a blat round the Essex lanes Phooey. Anytime, just PM me:)
