Just had a letter from motorrad asking if I’d like the extension on my warranty for a year at £39 pm
What’s the thoughts on necessity of this as I’ll be giving it back in 1 year for a new one.
Considering they haven’t done squat for me really so far with the 2 year warranty that comes with a new bike.

Only worth it if something goes wrong lol.
I find it comforting knowing I've back up when touring I've used it and it works very well .
I've also with my last 1200 paid for it for 2 years and never used it so you pays your money and takes your chance.
On the other hand if you're loaded and you get a bill for a £1000 or so it won't hurt you like it would me

Is that £39 per month ? or £39 per year?.. Could be £428 to lose.

£39 pm and 0-£100 excess per claim depending on what you choose, but the monthly payment goes up if you choose £0 excess
And also depends on mileage

I think you'll find that is more like £468.00...which sounds like a lot of money to me, however if your touring into Europe and the policy includes repatriation back to Blighty, then it might be worth it, if only for peace of mind!

One thing to bearing mind is that you get European breakdown cover as part of the deal. If you would be buying this as a separate policy then that is going to cost about £70 per year with someone like Quoteline Direct or Start Rescue which might make it less painful for some. If you do go ahead, make sure you do not double up on cover.

My insurance through Carole Nash provides this, and one of my mates needed it after a spill, nearest BMW dealer came out to recover the bike.

Its worth finding out what this warranty doesn't cover, last reminder I got mentioned it wasn't being run by BMW but a 3rd party insurance company. Cannot remember off hand who though. I had a sight glass melt and it wasn't technically covered by the Warranty though BMW did most of it as a good will gesture. Years ago it was with BMW and was pretty much the same as standard warranty.
