Extended warranty

i dont know about the extended warraty but did you know the 3rd year standard warranty does not include the exhaust downpipes/flappy valve
I've just verbally re-checked with A. Jeffries by telephone and they said the exhaust flap valve in the header pipes is fully covered under the 3 year standard warranty ? Anyway it has been noted in my service booking that I can't hear it cycling on power up.. and as of today the bike is 1 day under 2 years old so whether it's a 2 or 3 year guarantee I shouldn't be asked to pay for a replacement set of header pipes.

As much as it's a bit of a grr the exhaust flap is a not worth worrying about

Unless it's jammed in the closed position you wont notice a thing. if it stuck open whip the cover off disconnect the cables from the pully, replace the cover and ride the bike

Sadly not .... a monthly premium. They work it out on mileage I guess, but anything mechanical can break and when it does I don't want a huge bill from the dealer.

Your minted Rusty ;) you wouldn't notice a thing lol

We will see in May then, the lady on service reception said it's been noted on the service log, as we are still locked down I can't take it, if it turns out that they want me to pay for it I will obviously refuse as it will only happen again. I had a look and it is open, whip the cables off and forget all about it. I will report back in May.

Get hold of a copy of the policy booklet from somewhere. What they now call the Insured Warranty scheme isn’t the good deal it used to be. The excess on claims is high. The list of items the warranty won’t cover is longer than you’d expect. I’ve just cancelled the one on my K1200LT. (£43 a month) The price, even for peace of mind, was just too much, given the restrictions on where you can ride, under lockdown, and with dealerships closed anyway.

When I telephoned the warranty people, I asked whether owners who’ve had one over the last 12 months would be getting any discount for 2021/22. Clear from the reply, that this was something they’d never considered, and weren’t going to do.

Check the small print of the warranty - I let mine expire (2016 GSA pre TFT) because when it came due the document for renewal stated that Suspension was not covered after 30,000 miles which put my bike in that category. So if the suspension was not covered my real risk was Final drive / transmission and engine failure none of which seem to be epidemic failures for BMW GSA. so I took my chances and had 2 years off paying the warranty saving £900.00 which goes towards swapping the bike this year.

I think its a personal choice - you have to weigh up what your prepared to pay for repair if it fails and what you believe should last the duration of your ownership, personally I think the expensive suspension components are ones that i feel should have a longer expected lifespan that 30,000 miles (maybe they are now I dont know its 2 years since I had a document for the warranty). But what else does it not cover outside of base warranty:
Paint?
Electrical items?
ECU?
Headlight?
Electrical Connectors?

My guess would be very few of the above - so maybe keeping the bike changed below 30,000 miles or within the 3 year warranty cycle (it was only 2 years when I bought my bike) is the only real way to keep peace of mind.
