My bike will be 2 years old shortly and i am considering taking out an extended warranty. I have covered a fairly trouble free 14k miles on my MY13 bike having owned it from new.

Just wondering if anyone has taken out any cover and at what cost?

I have a quote from warranty direct of £325 for 12 months cover.

Not sure if it is required. Really for piece of mind i suppose.

I have always taken out the BMW extended warranty and so far got my money's worth. Dealer never quibbled when bits and pieces needed fixing or replaced. Have had the EWS replaced twice, the FPC twice and switches 2 or 3 times.

I have asked my dealer about BMW cover. Apparently it's not BMW's own cover and as such the dealer cannot arrange it. The warranty company acting on behalf of BMW should contact me soon as the bike will be out of warranty in about 7 days. As yet i have heard nothing so thought it best to start making some inquiries.

Good question Dario, Likewise I have my 1200GSA Oil cooled maturing in Sept and was looking into whether to take out an extended warranty, as you say for piece of mind. I was about to do likewise with a 1600GTLE but chose to swap back to a 1200 before the 2 year mark, those bike really do need warranty, they are mega bucks if anything goes wrong. SMcGirrs comment above tends to confirm the worth of an extended warranty.

Difficult decision, but tbh, if you've been getting it serviced at a main dealer, BMW are very good at goodwill gestures on non warranty claims, so you may be happy to run the risk. It's a bit like insurance/ gambling at the end of the day though.:thumb

If you go past the 7 days you have left without renewing the door closes on the BMW warranty.
I've just taken one out about £380 with no excess virtually the same as original warranty. You get full UK and European recovery.

Do you have contact details for the company?

Just give me the £380 and I will pay for any repairs you need. If you dont break down I will buy £380 worth of low class prostitutes and have a fun night. Its a gamble for us both :D

Just a reminder that the BMW extended warrenty used to require your servicing and other work to be undertaken by BMW dealership otherwise it is invalidated.

This is unlike the origional warrenty that comes with a new bike. Do check if this condition still applies pre purchase.

There was some chatter on the BM club forum a while back claiming switchgear is not covered! I checked when renewing for my R1220R and this was confirmed!
However it is a very comprehensive policy and covers more than Warrany Direct.

Just tried to renew my warranty this morning on my 9 year 44000 mile old 1200GSA only to be told they won't renew due to my aftermarket exhaust and Wilbers!!!

i had the extended warranty on my last gs , it cut out in the middle of nowhere in Spain. I used the number , got a Spanish guy fluent in english phone me back
Cut a long story short the bike picked up taken to Almeria, a hire car to get me back to my digs and well looked after , I had to pay for it up front , they gave me the receipt i handed into oceans when i got home. for the hire car , new part etc , no quibbles , reimbursed ,
Just that alone was more than the years subscription,
Will i do it again when my warranty runs out ................bloody right i will.....

How strange because the extended warranty doesn't cover suspension anyway on bikes that have done more than 30,000 miles.

Yes, they have just come back to me and confirmed that it is the exhaust that is the problem, I did point out that they would be lucky to find a GSA with a BMW exhaust and it may mean that they will lose a huge % of their customers.

they have asked me to provide an invoice from my BMW dealer showing that they fitted the exhaust!

Signed up with warranty direct for 15 months cost £280.

Very comprehensive cover (switchgear is covered) and importantly it can be transferred to a new owner should i sell the bike. By their own admission their breakdown cover is very basic but then i have AA membership for this.

No good for me as they only cover up to 10 years old and my bike is 9. Allianz is unlimited age upto 80000 miles as long as you don't let it lapse.
