I’ve just had my renewal letter for my 2016 gsa gone up to £40 a month don’t think I will bother, checked out the price for European brake down cover about £50 a year
Waste of money.
It doesn't cover the flappy exhaust valve which will fail from 1,000 miles onwards.
It doesn't cover the expensive electric suspension over 30,000 miles.

I've done it on my Land Rover for the past 6 years I think... Now 8 years old and close to 100K so won't be doing it after this one. But the place I take it to for service is not a dealer, he's an Indy, but can do LR warranty work.
It's £795 a year now, but he always makes sure I get my moneys worth
when its time to sell it, it will be one of the best kept Landrover around 
On the bike warranty, does the bike have to be serviced by BMW also? or can you or an Indy do it as long as you use BM parts?
If like LR, you want to take out a warranty on one not covered before, do you have to take the bike for an inspection before they will take it on?

doesnt say anything about taking it for inspection its all done on line it might get refused if it isnt serviced upto date thou.
just reading 2019 bike reports of the most unreliable bikes... BMW are right up there stating 40% of them will have issues in the first 4 years 
TBH, my twin cam started playing up at 18K, then my 2015 GS had a gearbox problem at 15K... and feck me, I now have a 67 plate GS with 11K on it and that makes a few odd sounds and can feel a bit rough at times?
Have BMW now got that bad.... I think even Ducati and Harley were better with Yamaha coming out top?
My R100RS from years ago did well over 100K and all I ever did with that was change the oil when I remembered....

My 1250GS has been back twice for warranty fixes (engine and gearbox) it’s less than a year old and although it gets used (just had its 12k service) it’s more than I expected when choosing it over the Multistrada.

They are good, guess that why I've bought them, but not without a lot of issues.
BMW do have a great mareting machine behind the dealers and its this i'm sure convinces us to part with out dosh....
Just wished they'd make them better. Lets face it, engine and box going pop should not happen at all these days... didn't over 30 years ago...

Would no waste my money on an extended warranty??
My 2015 R1200GSA bike had the following warranty work due to paint bubbling:
Engine replaced at 6k 1yr
Drive train replaced at 6k 1yr and 9k 18 months
Subframe replaced 9k 18 months
OUT OF WARRANTY
rear shock 30 months free of charge
Last week over 4 yrs old 25k
Front shock failed! Drilled the dealer and mother ship! BMW paid 80% cost of shock! just under £923 as good will gesture and I paid 20% plus fitting so just over £350 for a new front ESA shock.
Top tip if you own your bike it is under 5 yr old and has full BMW service history you can stuff it down there necks and they will always help!
There bikes are a mare! but ride like they are on rails and after sales is superb if you know how to deal with sub standard components/parts!
Oh and I got 2 years warranty on the front shock!
