Extended warranty on GS 1200 LC

Ive had nothing but bad experiences on 3 cars with warranty direct, as have plenty of friends of mine. I use the BMW one now and a dealer that tries their best to help me out. Just my experience obviously, but warranty direct like to row out of claims - just google them...

Just tried to renew my warranty this morning on my 9 year 44000 mile old 1200GSA only to be told they won't renew due to my aftermarket exhaust and Wilbers!!!

Serious question here, why do you feel you need warranty on a 9 year old bike?

My bike is a 2006 GSA with 112,000 miles and i've had it from new. Never had extended warranty and although I've had the FD rebuilt twice (I budget for this every 2 years) and had a gearbox go boom, I'm still up as I haven't had to pay for dealer servicing and annual warranty cost.

I agree, self insurance is the way to go.

Warranty direct were fine when i had to claim on a bmw car. Paid up £500 for the repair on an 08 plate car last year. No arguments but had to settle up with dealer on my credit card (it was a non franchise dealer policy but they covered it at the main dealer as halfords didnt have a clue) and they send the cheque through a few weeks later.

My ESA ( damper ) on the RT went pop at 17000 in my third year of ownership. Final cost £1500 ( plus labour ), BMW extended warranty paid out . Lesson learned , my GS LC is standard, only heated grips and cruise .
So if your bike is loaded with gizmos and you keep the bike up to 4/5 years is worth it .
Never had problems with WD , they just contributed to suspension replacement on my SAAB

I had warranty and in eight years of ownership ( two covered by initial warranty) I had two major issues and that just about covered the costs of six years of payments...these bikes are good but if they do go wrong its usually bloody expensive .. peace of mind...

Extended warentee providers are in the business to make money. They will have done a trend analysis and worked out the price that makes them a profit.

Get a quote, then stick that money in a bank account that you don't use. In 5 years time you will most likely see that what you would have been paying out will still be in your pocket
