well got the letter thru the post last week to extend the warranty on my 2015 gs lc and guess what, bike failed to start this morning.so called bmw assist they checked the bike, obviously a flat battery.so they charged the battery and lent me the ctek charger for a few days to top it up.very nice service the man also said to me the warranty is up at the end of the month, for 38£ a month for breakdown cover and warranty peace of mind i am going with it.i know the battery would not of been covered if i needed a new one, dont know what i did wrong to flatten the battery might of left ignition on as the battery was fully discharged and i am a dozy fucker.

Very good decision, and still cheaper than new bike, I also made this choice.

Nah, my bike has just finished its warranty. I wont be giving them extra money to continue it. I know its a lottery, But Ill keep my money and cough up if or when its needed.

i have already had a new shaft and drive fitted on warranty really good break down cover aswell, but can have just that for 65£ a year.

It is the breakdown cover Ill miss. Although never used it. Just peace of mind, I've got AA and Green Flag Euro cover.

How does the BMW breakdown differ to the RAC / AA

I have all vehicle cover on my RAC policy, but they no longer have dedicated bike trailers, you just get a flat bed

I have the extended warranty, it paid for itself on Saturday, when my fuel filler flap was replaced under warranty

Lot's of used spares for these bikes now so its the chance you take. If you can bolt things on and off yourself, why bother?
How much is it BTW, is it cheaper if you pay for the full year?

398£ annually or 38£ month, the bmw tech said that most other breakdown services aa/rac/gf will just take you to a bmw dealer rather than try and fix the issue,he said if you have a puncture they will plug it.he wasnt trying to sell me anything.:thumb

Mr Sutty ... I too have just taken out the warranty on my GSA .. fingers crossed I have never had a problem with any of my BM,s but anything mechanical can, and they do go wrong ... I paid a lump sum of £397 .. like your £38 a month that is just over £1 a day to cover everything including European cover and recovery .. if if does blow up or simply break we all know the repair bill will be eye watering !

yes that was my thinking rusty just over a pound a day,so if i stay off the haribos it will pay for itself lol:thumby:

Is there a limit to what age of bike you can extend the warranty on ?

billy b it says cover not available for bikes with more than 80,000 mls.also i think you have to have it in warranty to get it extended if it lapses you dont qualify.

it does not cover everything - especially not wear and tear, suggest you read the small print.

All you need is cover to get the bike home. There are thousands of 2nd hand parts available. One chap on this very forum swapped out a whole engine for about a grand.

Mine runs out in October - certainly will not be renewing. Shocks can be refurbished for £250

not the case - you can buy a warranty even if there is a gap

the warranty expired on both of my 2016 bikes in 2018. I have not extended the warranty on either bike but I can go to the BMW website and buy a warranty. There a mileage limits such as 30,000 for suspension and of course the wear & tear thing comes in to play to a greater extent as the bike ages

for me, with 2x 2016 bikes, I would have paid about £1800 in premiums if I paid £38 a month without receiving any benefit as all I have done is replace 1 battery apart from routine maintenance. Self insurance is the way in the long run. You might get a few big bills but average the cost out over a motoring life and it will be much, much lower than paying for an extended warranty.

on my renewal notice it says, now includes failure due to wear and tear for covered components.i was under the impression most things electrical on the gs lc has to be recoded by bmw to work, suspension, lights fuel cap keyless ignition etc might be wrong thou.malcopopolo i read the thread of the bike engine you talk about, very talented fellow with the spanners unfortunatley for me i am not as talented.

Warranty

If you stop and think about this you are buying insurance. Most won’t claim and that’s how insurers make their money.
If you do claim more than the value of your premiums then you are an exception.
If you have sufficient resources tucked away i.e. you won’t be wiped out if bad things happen, then insurance is not cost effective.
