Bugger, I've just dropped and broken my Maxtor external hard drive :blast

I'm not worried about extracting anything off it as it's only a back up of my PC and as long as that doesn't go tits up before replacing the drive, no worries.

Now when I bought the hard drive there was no such thing as affordable solid state USB memory. Looking on ebay now though, they seem very cheap :nenau

So, what do peeps in the know think; is it worth getting another mechanical hard drive or is solid state the way to go and, if so, any reccomendations please?

Solid state is only for smaller capacities, for now.

Just get another USB 2.5" HDD - they are really cheap just now.

But - watch out for the ones that require an additional power source (either via a power adaptor, or a second USB plug - which requres using two USB ports next to each other.)
