Personally I think this is getting complicated..
bmw fit the adjustable rod as standard to adjust for differing feet/shoe/boot thicknesses..
Crack off the 2 10mm just with an open end spanner, turn the rod a few turns & you'll see the lever move, find desired position & tighten up locknuts..

I've asked before what folk with lowered pegs do about matching the height of the gear lever and it appears most do nothing. Your post makes far more sense than simply accepting it's now in the wrong place! Nice one; I hope it helps the OP.
