I have a Givi topbox I'm fitting to the GSA and it has the integral LED brake lights fitted. I think there are 12 x 1v LEDs and there are only 2 wire's connecting them which on the old bike simply connected into the existing bulb loom - power and earth.

Being new to Canbus I'm not sure if I do similar on the GSA ( I have not looked at the wiring yet). Would this make the Canbus system think there was excessive current draw and shut anything down?

Help appreciated.

Might be an idea getting in touch with 'Techno' of this parish who supplies led panels for the GS.. he's a nice chap and Im sure will be happy to tell you exactly what you need... which I believe is a resistor (or similar thingie) which fools the canbus so you wont get a 'fault' showing - i think im right in thats what happens. but he is definitely the man to tell you whats what.

all the best.

While being happy to be shot down, I think the problem only exists if you replace the bulb brake light with an LED version. The extra resistor is required to full the Canbus into thinking the relatively low resistance LEDs are a higher resistance bulb. If you are piggybacking the Givi case LEDs off the existing bulb it shouldn't make a difference. The combined resistance, with the resistance of the LEDs in parallel with the resistance of the bulb, should still be within the tolerances of the Canbus.

On the other hand the reliability of the Givi case LEDs used to be crap as the cable quality was very poor - mine lasted about 500 miles before a combination of vibration and stuff rattling around near the wires inside the topbox shagged them...:blast

I await correction by someone who knows what they are talking about, of course...

If you're putting in 12 extra LED's that draw ~20mA each then the computer won't notice a thing.

IMO and YMMV......

However, I've never heard of a '1v LED'. Where do you get these '1v' LED's? It's just most drop significantly more volts than that. IME you'd do much better wiring them in parallel and working out a resistor value.

I knew I was in danger of being a numpty due to my lack of knowledge both of LED's and Canbus. The rear light on the GSA is already LED. I remember 1v for the Givi LED's only from memory and that was 2 years ago. So I would be adding 12 small LED's of whatever draw to an existing LED array at the back. If it ain't easy I'm not going to bother since it's no big deal.

i have an 04 gs with can bus and a givi top box with 3 rows of leds on each side, its direct fitting to the brake light. no probs.
what is this fear / panic with can bus?
