:blastExcuse my ignorance !!!, but when dit it start an what year bikes have been recalled??? Ive got a 2008 1200gs an havnt had a recall for this problem as yet ,but the collective problem log thats ongoing and getting larger lists a fair few 2008 models.
I have got myself a spair just in case the current one dies ,the spair is the black one ,but also covered with xtended warranty so all bases coverd for now ,the spairs for saving time on tour and a back up rather than wait for the cavalry to arrive:D:D

Should you need to use the spare, don't throw the broken one away. You can cannibalise the connectors from it to make yourself an emergency power lead to get you home in the event of further failures. Info here on the site somewhere if you search.

You also need to carry a set of security Torx tools to allow for changing the unit at the roadside so be sure to carry some.

Cheers pukmeister ,jst spotted thread on that ,but cant find owt on recalls??:beerjug:

wouldn't it make sense to fit the new, "updated" FPC, and carry the known functioning old one as a spare?

2008 wasnt in the recall, they don't need changing because the tank is a different shape so the water doesn't pool round the FPC

Was it a re-call or just replace when they went wrong or next service ?

Interesting, have to wait til sept after this years tour if it last that long and see if mine gets changed f.o.c, :beerjug:

I took it back out and gave everything a good covering of acf50 to protect it from any water just in case and been fine so far :)

Components inside overheated. This was not helped by the heatsink becoming corroded through lack of cleaning. Some of the early bikes had the waterproof seal replaced for a modified one under a recall - my first 1200 had this.

Thanks for the info , just assumed it was a water issue :blast

Water, heat, vibration . . they havn't got a clue?

Mine is the old silver jobbie, 5 years old & still going strong!
But have a nice shiny black one under the toolkit just in case. :thumb

I have it the other way around - I now have a 2010 one so the black one was already fitted. :thumb2
