That one looks ok, this is really how it should not look like

the only symptom was a slight (no - really!) clunk changing gear and the real clue was vibes through the foot pegs as i shut the throttle slowing down.... exactly the same as my Guzzi just before it ate its U.J. :blast
if it hadn't copped that i dread to think of the damage

:mmmm
pfft!
believe me - it aint talent.
i'm used to nursing fragile things.
..but enough of my self esteem, ego etc. :augie

;)

So what would a new one look like so that the untrained eye could spot the difference...

look at any u.j. - say the one you get in a socket set.
no play in any pivot point = good.
ANY play in a pivot point = replace!

at 8 to 11 seconds in the vid, you clearly see (a lot!) of play. forward / backward.
at 30 seconds in, i point to scoring - the result of that play.
at 41 seconds and 1.21 and 1.41 again, visible and audible  play.

even a cheap socket set u.j wouldn't do that.
hope that helps. :thumb2

... i should do a repeat vid showing the Guzzi's u.j... it's worse. :augie

THanks for that... it looked loose to me but having not seen one from a bike I had no idea what was different... apart from the scoring on the side. One more fact to add to the bike knowledge section! I had better go take my bike apart now to check it... :D

On second thought maybe not.
