F650 GS owners, help to answer a few questions, please.

My experience is that the instructions were wrong (stated same sized spacers), but they supplied different sized spacers that when fitted correctly the screen looked "normal".

I didn't try moving the bars after the trial fit so maybe if the screen's not fitted correctly ie lopsided it then fouls the hand guards. As I said I didn't try moving the bars after I fitted mine so it's a pure guess.

Agreed that against the BM Dakar screen there's not that much difference, but if you've only got the small GS screen it's probably a big improvement at less than BM's price.

Ahh well I used it as a replacement for the small GS screen so I'd say it will be an improvement.

Just on the fitted correctly bit John, which sides did you put the spacers on, I might pop out and try it. :rob

More the mirrors but it only just touches with the 40mm. I've the black one, if it matters. :nenau

Hi Timpo, I've been out of the country and not reading all posts, so missed this one.
You have a lot of feedback on the height of the 650. I got the 2" kouba links for the dakar to lower it for myself. The 1" ones are recomended for the standard 650. I think they have a deal that if you're not happy, even after fitting them, you can return them. They are dead easy to fit too!
As someone who has dropped my dakar loads, I wouldnt bother with engine bars, but maybe consider radiator bars. I got them from winderlich after having to fork out for a new rad and fan from a rather nasty drop somewhere in the welsh hills! Havent dropped it since, but I reckon they are strong enough to prevent similar damage.

I would definately recommend an after market screen. I have a wunderlich ergo one, that I really like, but there are other good ones too.

I also have a scottoiler fitted for the chain.

Thanks Orla.
We are investigating all the possiblities.
Regards.
Timpo.

i've got the puig screen, the secret is to raise the top of the screen up using thick spacers on the top mount holes, I used some rubber spacers to dampen any vibrations, about 20mm thick i think. It'll still be noisy but you won't get wind in your face :D

With the 9mm ones the air comes of the screen level with the visor opening on the System 5. It's quiet but if I put my hand over the helmet it goes very quiet. I wonder if that twist using the spacers is meant to be as it's correct on the instructions (note the part numbers on it one is 6mm one is 9mm... throw the air sideways.Hmmm.
