Hello all,

Any one out there got any advice on my problem, plus do you know where I can down load a manual in English, I seemed have down loaded one in German.

I was changing my fork seal the other day and managed to get the brass / copper split ring colar well and truely stuck in the lower leg. the result is that I now can't get the fork to pass throught into the leg. ????

Any advice please. Be kind, it's the first time I've tried to do this...

I know there's a technical online web based site where you can post such questions, its an American site but pretty good all the same. I've used it a couple of times, well never posted a query but certainly found some of the information very useful.

http://faq.f650.com/main.html

Hope it helps.

In the meantime I'll shift your post over from the newbie introduction section to the 650 technical section for you.

Enjoy your stay with us. :)

Duchess, do you think this should be in the 450/650 forum? I am guessing it is a single cylinder 650, as I wouldn't imagine you need to service the forks on a 650 twin yet.

Also, chrisville, it might be worth asking on www.f650.co.uk

You need to put the bronzed coller around the stantion (chrome bit) before pushing it back in place. It's a bit of a b*****d to get back in without the right tool, but with care it's possible.

Not sure how you're going to get the bush out of the fork leg now though. You'll probably going to have to wreck it, but be very careful not to damage it's seat.

Good luck, sorry I can't be of any more help.

Val.

Val that's great thanks.

I'll have to cut it out and buy a new one, but at least I know how to put it back in. the boys down at BMW didn't inspire me to much. the just said it should pass through with a good wack.

Thank you all for you help. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks

Just to let you all know, that I've now fitted the new fork seal. I had to cut out the old bush, I then made a tool to help fit the new bush. I fitted the fork seal and then relised that I'd forgotten to put a washer in place. so had to take the fork seal out again, put in the washer and the refit the fork seal.

So if any one needs any advice, I'm your man.

Many thanks for all your advice people.

I'm sure I'll need more as time go's on.

Cheers for now

Hello there.

I've done the same job myself this past winter and so far my forks are "sharper" than ever.....so far :augie

Just for information, to push the new fork seals in, I have used a 50 mm plastic pipe (the ones used for water conducts in the houses) and it just fit sooo perfectly, and it's cheap :thumb

Cheers
