Hi all, riding my bike today and noticed when I pulled over that there was steam/smoke coming from around the fairing where you put your key. Had a nosey around to try and find the problem, and just under the fairing to the right of the key area I noticed that fluid of some sort was squirting out of what looks like a little bottle ? It has a top on ( not unlike a milk bottle top) and seemed to have a hole right in the middle ? anyone have any idea what it is ?
I kept an eye on the temp guage which seems to remain the same i.e half way.
Thanks for any advice.

When did you last top up coolant my wife's bike has done this unless level kept between lower and upper level .

Sorry to be be a pain in the arse about this, but I can't figure out if this is normal. I'm not mechanically minded but can usually work out and fix problems myself.
Obviously the reservoir is some kind of expansion tank/overflow thing. I've checked the coolant levels and it all seems normal. I just don't understand why it has a hole in the top. Every time I am stuck in traffic for any length of time it starts squirting out like a water pistol as if it's overheating. But the temperature gauge stays normal. Next day I will check fluid levels and they don't seem to be low ?
The fluid squirts all over the pipes and I'm sat there in traffic with smoke/steam coming from the bike............doesn't look good.
Is this a common problem ? or could I possibly have an air lock in the system ?
Normal riding doesn't seem to be a problem, it's only when stuck idling in traffic for long periods.
Help :(

Hi is your fan motor kicking in at any stage? Leave it running on the main stand for a few minutes and you should have the fan start. With my bike for example the temp gauge sits at about half way during normal operation. If I leave it running stationary and it creeps up from memory just a couple of segments on the gauge the fan comes until the temp drops again.

My fan does kick in, and as I say the temp seems normal. It's just that annoying coolant/fluid squirting all over the place.
