I've just posted a thread in WANTED re the above.

I need the wheel, spindle, brake slider and calliper.

When the bearings collapsed on my rear wheel it took out most of the back end! The disc chopped through the pin holding the brake pads in place and cut a groove in the calliper. The end of the cylinder that pushes the brake pad also has a hole in it. The mechanic in Icleand had to grind the end of the brake slider (where the spindle passes through) to get a spacer back in, and the spindle had to be welded and machined to get rid of two grooves.

Until I have replaced the above, I can't find out if the engine is still 100% as the engineer won't ride it its present condition.

All a bit scary considering I have already spent over £800 on a new rectifier and alternator last month so I don't really want to ditch the bike at this point.

Cheers.

Malcolm

Possible water damage from ditching in a river.

The bike started ok but the air filter was wet and there was a small puddle in the air box. No milkiness in the oil so fingers crossed. The exhaust was full of water, but it blew out when the engine started. I rode another 1500 miles ... once I got the alternator replaced.

The bike feels rough but that may be because of the damaged wheel and brake.

Any suggestions on any other horrors that may emerge would be appreciated, before I spend too much money.

Sorry to hear of your problems Malcolm, sounds like your in the middle of a proper Adventure :eek

that Ebay wheel as above post has a buy it now :thumb2

another one worth calling Is James sherlock, ( as advertised here Banner above 01769 574350) they helped me out with a used 800 rear spindle, disc wire wheel bearings the guy made a few call's and called me back they sourced it fast :thumb2

fingers crossed your engine will be all ok as you have ridden the futher 1500 miles afler blowing the water out of your pipes :thumb2

Hope you get sorted soon, All the best :beerjug:

Thanks guys. I have checked with James Sherlock and Motor Works but no s/h wheels in stock. One of them has the calliper and slider, but the price of the 2008 parts is close to new.

I have emailed a couple of questions to the ebay item seller (kamikaze-moto) but I am not getting any replies which makes me suspicious. It says on the info that this seller does not accept rerturns. So what if the wheel turns out to be duff? I don't mind a bit of cosmetic damage as the rest of the bike has done over 51K miles and has a well used look to it!

It's going to take me a while to get over the trauma of this epic. Could have bought a s/h dirt bike for the cost of all the repairs!

I'll definitely fit new bearings before any further big trips.

If the ebay one does not happen, just to let you know and for getting you out of trouble and a few more calls to sherlock etc as they may not know this.

The F800 GS wheel if you can source one although wire and others may not know (but remember it's tubed) is a direct fit. The spindle F650 and F800 twins is also as they are the same BMW part number.....

:)

Thanks again. Just ordered the wheel of Ebay and told Rainbow to go ahead and order the other bits required.

God, I'm missing the bike! It's like having a close friend in hospital and not being sure if they'll pull through.

Fingers crossed.
