:mad:I'm really interested in the F700 having had the single and then the 650 twin before. I've had some difficulty getting prices - still am really - but apparently the comfort package is not available on the lowered seat height bike as it includes a centre stand. I suggested I could buy the pack and they could just give me the centre stand because I could sell it, the computer won't allow this apparently. As it's much dearer to buy the things separately I felt a little annoyed and decided to get on to BMW Motorrad customer services about it - silly me. I spoke to 'Jill' who said she knew nothing about motorbikes (?) but would ask her colleague and get back to me. She phoned back in 10 minutes to say that her colleague Andrew, knowledgeable about bikes, said - and I quote - 'the comfort package goes with the comfy seat and the low seat isn't a comfy seat obviously so it would be a contradiction in terms'

Hope he's equally knowledgeable about cars!:augie:augie

The lowered seat does not affect the centre stand, only the lowered chassis. Do you need the lowered chassis, or can you manage with just the lowered seat. If so, none of the above applies.

If you need the lowered chassis, and BMW don't offer a centre stand to go with it, then it's just a case of 'computer says no'. My understanding of the 'comfort pack' is - heated grips, abs, and centre stand. I thought that ABS was standard on all the new models. How much can heated grips cost?

The pack is grips, OBC, pannier rails and centre stand for £490, separately the grips are £230, OBC£155, rails £125 which is £510 and no centre stand to flog.:(

Could you also be kind enough to post the price for the base bike , the heated grips and the centre stand?
I'm also finding dealers reluctant to provide info ! Bizarre!

It warms my heart to see this problem with Motorrad is not just limited to where I live.

I guess Human Resources in Spandau forgot to ad the dictum that people who work in customer service for motorcycles require a degree of prior knowledge about motorcycles. Imagine how much fun the world would be if BMW was involved with pharmaceuticals?

I've just received the prices - so will include it here for anyone else who is interested ;

(2) Comfort Package £ 490.00

Previously a F650GS with ABS would be OTR at £7380.
Given the F700 has the latest spec , twin disc, newer ABS offering and a tad more grunt I think the F700GS looks keenly priced at only £215 more !

Compared to the recent F650GS SE ( I love that grey painted frame...) Its actually £60 cheaper for a similar spec ( ABS)

:thumb2Thanks Stuartw, I've only just looked at the board again which is why I hadn't put up prices. My guy said that the cost of ABS had to be added to the basic price making it over£8100 before accessories - he did say he wasn't totally sure. Did you mention the lowering? That's £180 if you didn't.

Buy the bike with the comfort pack then buy a lower seat, they are easy to change over, sell your original seat to get the money back.
One bike with centre stand and lower seat. SORTED

Thank you StuartW for posting that data, I hadn't been able to locate it myself.

I recently bought an SE in Yellow/Black and the reasons I didn't hold out for the 700 were that I wanted the higher gearing, the paddle indicators ( to stay in line with my '92 r100r Boxer) the colour and to avoid the expense of having to replace two discs/pads at some time in the future.

I wouldn't advise against buying either the 700 (or a 650 if preferred) they are seriously good bikes and, with fuel set to rise again, make all sorts of sense.

Sure the Honda NC700X is a lot cheaper but it's 47 bhp and riding the two back to back is highly revealing.

You avoided getting a twin disk break to cut down on expense? Really?

Getting a bike with twin disk front break is the best decision Ive ever made! Such an amazing difference

Wollaston Northampton not only had the price, spec and loads of pictures they also managed to get me the colour and spec I wanted allocated from the first limited production run. Some dealers are better than others it appears.

Hi Aubo - that's fantastic. Would you advise ... is there any way we can get a discount on these ? I'm actually considering the F650GS SE ( since I can get 6% off list for a new bike . I think they have many crated up the the uk that need shifting . I would go for a 700 if I could get a similar discount.

How long will it take to delivery ? Did you test ride it ?

Mad accountant ... I agree the difference (F650GS SE , F700GS ) is all down to personal preferences. Hey , the single disc is plenty powerful to lock the wheel (abs permitting ) , so I think the twin disc is largely aesthetics.
Maybe if you were making an Alpine descent, two up with gear , there could be less chance of fade with the better heat absorption qualities of the twin disc 700 ? I prefer the look of the F650GS SE though with the grey frame and longer beak.

The kind folks at Oxford let me spend 2 hours on their demonstrator 1200GS this week. It gas all the goodies and the ASC, electronic suspension adjustment is simply incredible. you can feel the difference between sport/norm/comfort!
However , I didn't come away with "I have to own one " feelings.
If you ride every day I can see how it makes sense, but for occasional use, I know the 800CC bikes cost much less to buy/run. They can deliver similar smiles. The gearbox on the 1200 in particular, well the gear change process put me off buying the bike. It seemed to bang /crash with some force into each gear . As a comparison the F650 GS "snicked" neatly without drama.

I think I'm quite a cautious motorcyclist and I ride just for fun. With young children etc to care for , the "real world " performance of a 71/ 75 HP bike is actually enough for me. I think the only alternative to the F700GS is an F800R . They are better value , since they seem to be unloved by the market and 2012 examples with 1500 miles are available at crazy affordable prices.

(Hi Katy Otter - are you in Ottery st Mary ? ... I know the area well !) Katy the base price does include ABS , I think you have been misled.
I don't know enough to answer the seat height question though .. Sorry !

Your right :thumb2 the single disc is plenty, but you would be suprised how many are put off by the single so it will attract more and brings it in line with the triumph tiger 8.

The F650 GS is now marketed as more of a road bike than it used to be in the glossy brochure, it reads completely different :D
