F700 Screen Solution

screen

Hi Mark, not the best of news on the bars I'm afraid :(. Someone lent Adv. Spec another new bike of a different make (can't remember what he said it was now) and so they downed tools and set about doing things for that as they only had it for three weeks. I fear they don't see things for the 700 as a priority as there aren't enough around - they're only a small firm as well which doesn't help. They need jollying along I think, the more enquiries they get the more likely they are to get on with it, it might be worth giving them a call as another 700 owner. If you feel like it they're on 01422 882997 and the guy to ask for is Dave (really nice bloke).
The next thing on my list is a sump protector - pretty easy to get as that area hasn't been changed so the ones already out that fit the F650 twin or the F800 will do; I'm keeping an eye out on here for a decent second-hand one. John will definitely sort your screen out for you if you can find one, what happened to the one that someone offered on this thread for £30?

I bought it to replace my cracked one!:thumb

Cheers Katy. If I find one I will come bearing booze to barter for jeweller-alchemist skills!

I didn't realise you had converted a screen for the 08-12 F800 for your F700...that could have been an 'oops' moment as I kinda assumed (duh) that they were unchanged.

I shall endeavour to find one from that epoch, anyway, and if I do I may come hustling for help with that nip and tuck.

Re the above post I have the damaged screen that you could try if you pm me your postal address i will send down but i am going to use it on another project so i would want it back but you could try without having to buy one i wouldn't like to say how much i have spent on screens trying them and then selling on at a loss

Hoping for some help, will a 2009 F800GS screen fit a 2012 F700GS without to many adjustments.

Definitely. You're quite near us In Taunton. My husband will do it for you or, if you prefer and you have the right cutting tool, will tell you how to. Mime's been great - couldn't have had better trials than our recent trip. PM a phone number if you like. :thumb

I know Colyford, I used to live in Chard and have a mate from that area.
I am looking for a screen that offers more protection than the standard one but not one of those full on tourers, I have seen a mra screen on eBay but not to sure if I like the way it looksand to be honest want to keep the cost below £100.
Any ideas?

I've got the T-shirt on the screens! The only current solution is the original screen from the 800GS (2008 - 2011), cut as described and then the Touratech extender If you want a little more height. Ykou can get an adaptor kit, see previous posts on this thread but you lose some fairing and it looks awful.

Thanks for the info Katyotter, if I was to get an F800GS screen what would your multi talented hubby want to adapt it, it's not a bad ride down to your area so happy to drop it down.

Ha Ha, and there i was thinking you were a pint of bitter kind of lass.
Leave it with me and i will see if i can get a screen, i will then look at whats involved and if i feel out of my depth ride on down to see you.

Not me :kissy2, t'would be John doing it. If you have a piercing saw follow directions several posts above. St. Clair is £8.95 a bottle, worth it?

Thanks for posting the F800 screen mod fix - could be one of the most cost effective mods I've done.... bought a screen off eBay for £25 and attacked it with the Dremel at lunchtime. 15 minutes and no swearing (first time for everything) and the screen was fitted.

Just need to wait 2 weeks for the screws in my foot to be removed and I'll be able to road test it! :D

Sounds great Gigsy:D, as I said to someone else on here - I've got the screen T-shirt! I can guarantee this will work in the most desperate winds without needing any additional support (see my trip report France & Spain 2013). Are you going to add the Touratech extender?

Certainly feels like it will be up to the job - very little flex on the 4 bolts and usefully bigger than the stock screen.

Not sure about the extender, will see how it is without it to start with - I find the stock screen was pretty good at keeping my speed down so don't to add too much comfort.

Was a good excuse to buy a new Dremel though, so you never know :D

I was the top bidder and a friend came over and when he went you out bid me by a bloody quid, there's another one the same on there now and it's at £41.
You got a bargain my friend.

Kate, thanks again for your help on this.

For better or worse I've ordered an adjustable Givi screen (which required a lot of squinting as I gave payment details...ouch!) as I was having feck-all luck finding an 08-12 standard screen. Judging by these recent posts I appear to have been looking in the wrong place or for the wrong thing. Doh.

Anyway, here's hoping this beast of a screen I've bought does the job. If not it'll make a useful shield during the zombie apocalypse.

Thanks again. I'll keep my eye out for your friends' engine guards if they proceed with them.

I would just like to say that my screen is sold.It was sold within a couple of days of posting on this thread.
