F8 Fork conversion

Planning on doing the conversion outlined on AdvRider

bought these forks off ebay:

Will 'try' to keep a picture log of the conversion although once i start, thinking about picking up a camera doesn't usually come into my head.

Quick update:
Received forks today and have stripped them down and made measurements ready to machine the GS forks tomorrow morning

I'm not one for annotating everything but pictures are pretty self explanitory

Just need filling with oil and steering head bearings changing again
Then should be ready to reinstall and go for a test ride

Some useful info
Front bore Dia 31.3mm
Rear bore Dia 28.25mm
Land thickness on 28.25mm bore 9.1-9.5mm.

Casting variation caused one land to be short at 9.1mm nominal size that i was aiming for was 9.5mm

Forks are filled with oil 100mm from the top.
Forks are set for max travel which is about 290mm
Forks are going to be raised in the forks about 25-30mm so front end will be about 30-35mm higher

Will try this for an offroad setup will be rebuilding my 2nd front wheel with a 17" rim so the 30mm height increase won't matter so much

I did this conversion to my F800GS last month.

A pair of Aprilla RXV 450 forks bought for £120 off this site.
Machining done by GB Components in Melksham for £50.
I used a pair of 38mm spacers to restore fork travel to 230mm.
Forks reassembled with 0.7kgmm Ktech springs intended for the Triumph 800XC (40mm shorter) and revalved by Ktech for £280. They used 5 wt oil.

A brilliant conversion, now soaks up the bumps without that harsh jarring through the handlebars that spoilt the feel of the stock bike.
