F800/650 Headlight.

Okay bought the one off feebay saving myself £101.

Many thanks to seller Mad_Maexel.

Not much rejoicing as I don't want random items breaking like this.

...my headlight is fecked also due the HID's burning the lens. But that's my fault for modding a perfectly working headlight.

Why would HID's burn the lens? Don't they run cooler than incandescent lamps? I think that is the reason that power for power they are so much brighter, more of the power becomes energy in the visual spectrum and less of the power is converted to heat energy.:nenau

They output more light but don't be fooled they do run hot. They are not like LED's and I can show you a very black and de-chromed lens after a years use.

There may be something else that's not right. After more than 3 years and around 30,000 miles mine are fine in my 1150.

Quick question I have bought some helicopter tape (really hard abrasion resistance) Has anyone any experience of using this on headlights to forstall chips since in essence you are creating layer 1&2 of a 3 layer laminated product

I couldn't believe they don't have spares, not even at the factory in Germany.
Spoke to customer services and they said no spares and all headlights they have are allocated to new bikes. Crap service. Anyways it took 8 weeks to get one and cost £300 inc. bulbs. Trouble is I couldn't wait and traded bike in with broken glass included.
Anyone need a headlight ring me on 07782128820

Gee there has been two on eBay recently. I'm sure there is a current tosser on the for sale section that has a uk unit that is surplus to requirement following euro conversion.
Have a quick search I'm sure he wanted 90 crisp English pounds

Headlamp

Does anyone know if you can get a headlamp glass for the 800.
BMW only sell the headlamp unit complete. It's only the glass thats broke.

BMW will, with mask and gun, absolutely steal your money for an entire replacement to the tune of about $500 US. However, I have heard of a guy in South Africa who used a piece of plexiglass in place of the original and didn't notice anything different after 2 years of use. Why not have someone cut you a decent piece at a decent price and let BMW soak someone else?

+1 ...

Chop out the glass and cut your own from lexan ... stick it back with a bit of silly-cone ... the bezel on the front will hide any small variances.

If you have any luck with the Lexan idea, or any other fix, let us know as it's probably one of those things that's easier done pre-emptively as opposed a trailside repair...

Best of luck,
