I've got a F800 bought new in Oct 2012.

I got the dealer to make the alarm turn on automatically when you take the key out rather than press the button. A few months after I bought it I went away and didn't ride the bike for about 8 weeks, then when i tried to fire it up not surprisingly it the battery was completely dead.

I bought an optimate and fully charged it, however in the last couple of months the the battery is flat (not dead but not enough juice to start the engine) after a week of not riding.

Should I expect this as normal, or have I screwed the battery ?

When I do ride I do an hours commute each way.

Anyone know how to reprogram the alarm so I have to turn it on and off on the blipper ? I don't want the alarm running the battery down whilst its sat in my garage....

Thanks.

Your battery will last forever if you use the bike regularly - they do not like not being used. Optimates (or anything similar) do not work over extended periods, I have tried them on bikes and cars, and the result is always the same, knackered battery.

jmho.

Batteries don't really like deep discharge, like completely flat. Sometimes you get away with it and can charge them back up, sometimes you don't. I'm guessing you need a new battery.
