Hello Ladies, Gentlemen and all :)

Almost out of the Blue

I have acquired an F800GS from this community, so thanks to Jaycommando for passing it on to me. Along with full documentation of it's history and some excellent kit :D :beerjug:

What a grey day :D

As a US import starting out it's life at Bob's BMW .

now if Carlesberg had BMW dealerships :D:D , complete with there own tattoo, T shirts, bike projects, Microfiche of past and present models :blagblah :blagblah

Good Job Bob :thumby:

So now for a clean start :D

To follow some light spannering and of course some deep thought for a sprinkling of useful bling :D:D:D

:bounce1

I here the grey ones are the fastest is it true? :nenau

LOOKS LIKE I HAVE SOME WORK TO DO:D:D:D:D:D:D

happy new bike dean :jager:jager:jager

lovely bike and after meeting Jay you couldnt wish for a better person to buy a bike from:thumby:

Awwww Shucks, Thanks Guys! Its gonna be cleaner now than when i got it from the dealership.

Enjoy Dean! Have fun playing with yer nuts (and spanner)!

What made you swap to the 800? Looks lovely!

Thanks Dave :beerjug:

voices in my head made me do it :loopy :D:D

I have thought about it in the past and then thought no :blast my f650gs does all I want and suits my needs, so why change :nenau..... more thinking :duno

Made it easier knowing I have a lot of goodies that fit the F8, then the misses added another voice in my head ("woteva") so I did :D:D

I have thought about getting an 800 as next bike so it will be interesting to see what you think.

I keep looking at the GS trophy edition they did! :drool

Are you swapping over the bling from your 650?

early impressions and having ridden quite a few as hire bikes in the past I think the biggest difference is the front end adding to a more chunkier dare I say Rugged look and feel from the thicker bars, forks with the 21 wheel and twin brake discs for more stopping power. Talking of MORE. Acceleration - power is more, but noticeable accelerating at higher speed.

It sits higher with more suspension travel front and rear giving a greater ground to bash plate clearance.

The overall appearance is a look I like :thumby:

Possibly for some of the more reasons above is a better pillion carrier, but I'm 99.1% a solo rider (if swmbo was keen to travel via bike. I would most likely be on a 12 for the more reason ;) ) :D

Yes I agree it looks so cool and I don't think I have seen one on the road :cool :drool

Yes a lot of the swappable, Desierto screen, acropovic can etc. But leaving on some specific stuff and other goodies to sell on. :D :D

I have ridden an 800GS a few times whilst mine has been in for s service. Nice to ride and Liked the higher stance!

1200GS is also the other option, Most of my social riding is 2 up so it would be easier on the 1200GS. Only thing is my budget doesn't stretch to it!

Folks a few questions if you'll humour me please before I get another 1200 GS
How much lighter than a 1200 GS is it in reality is it noticeable
Is it good on tarmac solo (yes I realise tyre choice will make some difference)
What's the buffeting like with the big screen :nenau
TIA
:beerjug:

that's another reason It was not on the agenda :blast  I think 650 to a 12 is a natural progression, but that's just a personal opinion :D :D

About 24 kg with full tanks, buffeting hugely reduced with a big screen, yes good on tarmac, that's where most stay :D

and the F8 is 10mm taller standard seat compared with a standard seat all adds to the difference, with the 21 front wheel and all..

pros and cons :nenau

But it is all about personal taste , opinion and feel questions that only you should answer :beerjug: ..... why not take one out on a test ride, (a long one, not just round the block :D)

Hopefully things should settle down next year and I might go on the hunt for a decent 06-08 plate one!

Might well keep my 650GS as well, she will be over 50,000 miles by the time the year is out!
