Hey all!, i have recently purchased a second F800 Gs (a week ago) off what seemed a honest guy. The bike has done 26k, full BMW service history and is in really great condition, you would of though it done a quarter of that mileage!
When i went over top have a look the guy was middle aged with a wealth of adventure riding, he had been to the Ukraine and all over Europe so i thought he seem genuine, and most likely was.
However after a couple of days i tried to start the bike to travel to footy on Saturday, however it seemed slow to turn over but, i though it might be the cold or something, anyway on the way back she wouldn’t turn over, lights on just that ticking noise you get when it try’s to! Bugger i thought but managed t recruit some mates to bump me off Anyway the result after reading threads on here was the stator had gone!, which it had! i sent it to west country winding where they did a great job! Basically the copper wire bmw has supplied on the stator isnt up to the job, thin and not insulated enough! So they upgraded it with thicker wire and insulating! :thumb So it works fine now and charging nicely!
So the next question what’s next thing to go? I have heard wheel bearings?, does anyone know a good quality place to get a new set!, i dont want crappy bmw china ones!
james!

How much did your re-wind cost?

Wheel bearings can easily be replaced - whip them out and take them to a local bearing supplier who will be able to match them. Ask for good ones!

Yeh its running fine now, quite pleased with my repair job!

£120 for the re-wind and £11 for the gasket + a couple of hours!, seems a lot better then a £750 quote from Bmw that i heard about on here!

So in actual fact the honest rich vendor had fukc all to do with the fault.(I just can't seem to link your comments about him to the fault):blast

Seat

try Tony Archer for your seat, about £80ish

Just get your Rectifier checked James for the charging side of things. If that's ffffffffffeckt it'll fry your alternator/stator again

:beerjug:
