F800 vibration

Test rode an F800gs and F800gsa yesterday.

The gsa was lovely but the standard was a bit vibey. This was not much of a problem till 5000 revs when the vibes seemed to come up through the seat, through my body and into my helmet!

Anybody else suffered from this?

Were you riding it in the style of Lady Godiva?

Whilst I felt vibes through the bars when I had my F8GS they certainly weren't to the extent you mention in other areas.

Not a problem I have heard of before. Although I tested a 800 GSA yesterday and found it slightly smoother than my own bike Very nice

800 bad vibes

They are vibey unfortunately something to do with the balance shaft in the engine? if you do a google search there's lots of info on F800org? or something similar, People have used bar end weights to try and counter the handlebar issue/numb hands. My bike only vibrates through the frame which annoyingly was at 45/5000 rpm or 70-80 cruising speed. Ive gone up a tooth on the front sprocket which has helped. Interesting that the adventure was smoother wonder whats been altered.

At the risk of a load of abuse something that obviously varies from bike to bike is how they have been run in.

I'm about to collect an 11 plate F650GS so I do hope it's not obtrusive.

Thanks for all the replies.

Been on a few other forums and some riders have noted that the vibration calms down after a few thousand miles and the bike I rode was a new demonstrator.

The Adventure was fantastic - had a different, more comfortable, seat and larger fuel tank which made it feel a bit more planted on the road. Saying that the gsa fuel tank was full whilst the standard was on reserve - may have made a difference .

Looking at one later today with a touring sprocket - will hopefully be ok as a super bike otherwise.

After I bought my 2011 F800GS which was a very low mileage ex demo, I took it down to Cornwall and thought it was vibey, but I have to say I'd clean forgotten it until I read this thread. What I can't be sure of, is whether its cured or I'm used to it.

It's no longer an issue for me.

All I can speak of is the relationship with my own 800 and I certainly don't have a problem with vibration, but I guess they can all be different.

I picked my new GSA(T) on Saturday having riden a standard GS800 a few times and I am certain that the GSA is smoother feeling over all than the standard. Of course, that's very subjective because the demo I became used to may have been very vibey compared to the norm and I wouldn't have known! It is very probable that the heavier rear frame, larger tank etc change the frame and engine's harmonic responses which in turn damp the vibration...

My feeling is that as far as large twins go, the 800GS is very much smoother than many I have tried. Vibes are you get if both pistons go up and down together! Overall though, the characteristics of the bike and power delivery are very smooth me thinks

My first gs800 was very vinyl when I got it only 2K on the clock, mostly through the bars. After a fair bit of Webb searching I bought a £2 tube of silicone a piece of rubber pipe and filled up the handle bars. Huge difference, apparently done a lot on enduro bikes. There is a firm in the USA Bar Snake I think that will sell a similar product for lots more money.
