Here is the touratech F800GS fitted with a large tank , panniers , and sump protection . So , how long will it take for BMW to make this into their own ADV version ? .

I've got the 800GS ADV... with the rear fuel tank :D

Thanks Woodworks. I had planned to use something similar to the Kolpin fuel containers. There is a company in the US that makes something virtually identical to the Kolpin's. The only difference is they dont leak and the handle and cap is in a better place.

My plan was to then fit an ALU plate to the rear racks and then bolt the tanks on either side and then place the ortlieb panniers over them. I have a trip coming up in a few weeks and so I ran out of time so opted for a $10 5 litre plastic fuel can strapped onto the rear rack. Gives me an extra 80 miles so in essence I have a 300 mile total range which is more than enough for my needs in Western and Eastern Europe. :D

Do the kolpins leak? or do they just need good tightening - am looking at getting two to mount on the adv spec bars!

A lot of the forums appear to be saying the Kolpins do leak...

Rotopax appear to be the container of choice now

The KTM in this thread uses a tank that would work well on the 800.

For me though two rotopax tanks strapped to the rear pannier racks with some heat shielding is a better location than the crash bars which are right next to the engine if they are located on the inside or are gonna get it in a fall if located on the outside.
