This in now the 4th F800 twin I have had in 4 months LOL

Sold two of them and I'm keeping the 2015 one lady owner F800GS and I think this one is going to be a keeper (for while at least)

One owner F800 GS Adventure TE with only 10K miles on it , full service history but has only done around 1500 miles in the last 5 years

Picked it up at lunchtime and the fettling is already well underway to get up to scratch ;-)

I can't imagine buying a bike and immediately taking it apart. It would terrify me. But you're good with the spanners and I'm not, essentially!

Valves all checked and within specification , new plugs and air filter fitted , oil & filter changed

New batteries in DWA6 alarm , new in tank fuel filter

Airbox re-fitted

Just out of interest as you already have a wealth of knowledge with these bikes, have you ever needed a valve adjustment? I moved my 650 on at 75k and it had never needed an adjustment, all still within spec from new. Pretty impressive.

I’ve probably checked the valves on 15-16 of these Rotax engines and I’ve only ever had one bike that had a single exhaust valve that was tight and needed re-shimming , so yes I agree they seem to be very rarely out of specification

Ive been running the 800 twins since 2011 and really rate them. I remember seeing a complete engine teardown at something like 120,000 kms and there was very little wear. Yep stators go at 80,000 miles but thats it.

John I have a nagging memory you stripped a road version ST? Of one of these 800’s down about 6-7 years ago , practically enviscerated it from memory.

I did do a fairly big strip down on one a long while back , it may well have been a ST or even a GT

Just nudging 150,000 miles when it went. Still on original clutch, timing chain, never required valve clearances doing, all well within tolerances. Didn't burn any oil.

I knew is was in that region mileage wise
A testament to their reliability and your care

Can you post here or PM me a picture to remind me what it looks like please . Was it the high seat ?

Cheers

John
Will do, it is the high seat ,I have a 33 " inside leg and it was fine for me .about the same as a r1200/1250gsa with standard seat on highest setting

I remember the photos of you breaking it out of the crate 👍👍

Radiator removed and coolant system flushed . Steering stem and upper and lower yokes removed , bearing seats are in excellent condition but not much grease on bearings so I will clean and re-pack them with waterproof grease . Next is to remove the exhaust header so I cam clean it properly . Whist the header is off I will clean the front engine casing and treat it to some Waxoyl to protect it

Forks stripped and re-assembled with new oil & dust seals . Brake Calipers stripped , piston checked and re-assembled . Forks back on the bike . Cleaned up the exhaust , can’t re-fit it yet as I’m waiting for exhaust gaskets and nuts . Tomorrow’s jobs are new chain & sprockets and strip rear caliper

Old chain and sprockets removed , front sprocket was badly hooked . New DID chain set fitted . The genuine DID tool makes short work of braking and joining the chain . Rear caliper stripped and rebuilt
