I pulled up at the traffic lights the other day and heard a very loud knocking noise on tickover even through my ear plugs - Ah for f*cks sake I shouted what the bollocking hell is that? Then I realised I had a UPS deisel van sat behind me! We really must stop worrying about these things!

Yer i know we shouldnt worry but when youve had a 9 grand bike go pop you do it just happens, anyway ted im busy sat but tue eve ill be in bromsgrove, i go n see the old man he school lane so mebee link up then , cheers nathan ...

yer i recon so , i just sold a transalp to get the gs , that sounded sweet n quiet even with 42,000 miles on the clock , thts why i posed the question really in the first place , but that was a real soft low compression engine ,im guessin its the compromise for more power and economy some valve train noise , thats what i think it is , just the tappets hitting the 100 valve cam lobes at a zillion times a second , fair play mr brainy austrian

My 798 I mean F650 GS is sweet as a nut at 11,500 miles but then again I have a softer cam

My 2 year old gs800 started making a strang noise at 5000 miles (while I was in morrocco so a worry) thaen just went away.I guest it was the cam chain auto adjuster coming to the end of one notch and clicking over to the next.
