I have just spent the last week touring Normandie and covered just over 1000 miles.

I have found my existing seat became increasingly uncomfortable as the week progressed and can't bear the thought of having to go through all that again.

Something's got to give, so my question is, which is the best option?

1. Air hawk (if so which size and any recommendations of where to go shopping for one)?

2. An aftermarket comp fort seat?

Any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations would be most welcome.

Thanks

or

3. reshape current seat with different foam or gel.

I had this done to my seat, it's now somewhere between the standard seat and the low seat height wise but with a flatter shape.

Or, try BMW's own Comfort seat...I couldn't take the standard seat on my 800GS for much more than an hour...you lasted a week? The Comfort seat that BuMw offer made a huge difference for me- Could happily ride all day. SWMBO commended the much-needed improvement at her end of the seat as well.
The only penalty is that you have to remember to shift forward if you want to get both feet flat on the floor - the extra width effectively makes the ground further away...

I found the comfort seat trapped the back of my jacket and didn't allow for much moving around on the seat.
So I bought an Airhawk as there is no "seat rebuilder" around here.
The Airhawk, in the small cruiser size (the $99 cheapo model not the neoprene one), was the single best accessory I have ever fitted to a bike since I put a Boyer on my old Commando.
I rode 10 hours yesterday in temps ranging from 33c to 12c to 33c and from sea level to 3,200 meters and back again on tarmac, sand, rock, clay, and tarmac again, and I never had a problem. The trick is to put in the correct amount of air which is actually very little just enough so your backside is about a centimeter or so off the seat itself.

seat

http://www.tonyarcher.co.uk/ £75-100 for recovering + adding gel thing

my seat has already been covered by Tony A. I didn't want to name names to be honest as visually the seat he did for me is great.

I've had it made wider and higher than standard with a gel pad so there is no shortage of foam.

The issue for me is the shape, or more specifically the angle, of the seat as it pitches you forward towards the tank putting pressure on my buns.

That is not a criticism of Tony's work but more the natural shape of the BMW seat pan

if the seating area/pan was effectively horizontal I am convinced the discomfort would no longer exist.

I sat on a BMW comfort seat a few weeks ago and it struck me how horizontal the seating area actually was.

The comfort seat, in my opinion, isn't so comfortable.
Maybe I've got a fat arse?

It's good for about an hour. After that, numb bum!

Yep I have to agree with Mikemike :thumb2 the Air hawk is the single item that has been the best purchase on my bike today bar none because it is rider comfort :D as to the trick he describes.

I think its because the air moves as you do and thefore you never sit on the same foot print so to speak so refreshing :D

I have the TT high touring seat its the Kahedo HERE God for me for about 2 hours then ache sets in, the air hawk II (bliss) and for long Days it bets the Lambland Pad also cooling the sweaty betties.

slight munchkins must have nae bother surely :nenau

Still maybe its me I may have a little one but I have 15 and a wee bit stones to push it home :beerjug:

As you can see from the replies.....different things work for different people, what is comfortable is generally subjective (take beds for instance) so personal recommendation is of very little value. That is why although the seat on my RT is uncomfortable I put up with it as it is expensive to go through a 'process of elimination', only to find none of them are actually more comfortable than the stock seat. Of course you might be lucky and just happen to choose the one that works for you first time............Good luck! :thumby:

Strange you are having problems, I got TA to do mine too and its been great and definately doesn't push me forward ?
