My 2015 F800GS has tubeless tyres, well thats whats on the sidewall.

My understanding is that wheels with spokes must have inner tubes. So are they tubeless tyres with inner tubes fitted or are they really tubeless ?

TIA

Tubeless with inner tubes apparently. Mine are the same.

Wheels with spokes can be tubeless.

I have a set of tubeless wheels / tyres on my F800GS but they are not BMW std equipment

May as well take out the puncture repair kit and get a mousse

Mousse are ok off road but no good on road.

The heat caused by on road will cause them to overheat and disintegrate

Mousse was the wrong word, I used to carry an aerosol of "foam" product that for minor punctures might seal a small puncture just enough to get you to a garage.

Will start looking unless anyone can recommend something, other than tyre levers etc. I'm in the RAC if it's that bad !

Look up Stop'N'Go kits - they use mushroom plugs and generally well thought of. I would definitely practice at home on an old tyre before using in the field.

Best,

S

Thanks, I have one of these from when I had an RT, my Multistrada came with one as part of the under seat tool kit, but the F800GS has tubeless tyres fitted with inner tubes.

Another (sorry about pun) solution is required

Tyre levers & tube patch repair kit, maybe a spare tube & pump

20 mins at the road side - tube out & patched or new tube in and your on your way

Motul foam puncture repair seems to be good for thorns & small tacks etc, but take the valve core out before putting it in :) - but foam gloop won't repair a cut or gash - it's a tube out job

Motul P3 is the answer, repairs and reinflates tyres with or without inner tubed.
Demon Tweeks sell it.

I think you'll find that the new Honda Africa twin will also have tubes in tubeless tyres giving it, as the F880gsa some off road caperbility on 21 front rims.
I'm not sure but does the KTM 1190R with the 21 front have tubes or tubeless.

mushrooms and foam won't help with TT tires. get a spare tube and travel with that or learn how to fix it. Last month I the whole operation on mine in 22min13sec inclunding putting wheel back onto the bike. Most manufactures will stop making tube type tires because it makes no more sense to do so. You can run tubeless with TT.

I don't care what anyone says. I say that putting that into a tube is dangerous. It's like asking for a blowout. Jjh

You can go tubeless with normal spoked wheels but they need modifying. It depends what you're doing: anything more than a fire road most would recommend tubes because they allow you to run at lower pressures - they're a PITA when they do get a puncture because you need to remove the wheel, replace or repair the tube and reinstall but with practice and the right tools you can get this down to 20-30 mins. If your not going off-road then tubeless are easy to repair with a Stop 'n' Go pocket tyre plugger kit. If you have tubeless you can still always carry a tube because you can put it in when you have a puncture that can't be repaired with a plug, such as a sidewall puncture/split.

what he said. :thumb2 I use a high pressure push bike pump. You'll also need some elbow grease and a bottle of beer. (drink the beer and use the bottle to 'roll' the patch down to ensure good adhesion)

Jon, which tyre levers ?

I use DRC Pro tyre levers with the appropriate sized wrench head for the front & rear axle nut...

Apart from the two wheel nut sizes do you need any more ?

How do you break the bead ?

3 tyre levers makes life easier. If fitted, you can use the centre stand to break the bead. Carefully lean the bike over and line up the foot of the stand with the edge of the bead, lower the bike onto the tyre, using the bike weight and a bit of body weight will pop the bead.
