hi guys i have always had boxer engine bmw,but looking at the moment at an f800s,year 2008 ,its mileage is a tad high at 42thousand miles ,other than that the bike looks great .
its the silver engine ,is the black engine any better or is it just the same engine with different paint .
is the silver engine problem free at high miles
cheers guys

Not bad

Time well spent reading both this forum and others for any issues. Remember there is always a larger percentage who use the forums to express their concerns and issues than those who don't have any at all.
I have a 2010 (from new) and all has been going brilliantly well until recently the dreaded issue with the intermittent stalling. No definitive answer to this problem apart from a methodical parts replacement until the issue disappears. Evidently earlier bike i.e. 08's do not have the upgraded fuel pumps and have been more prominent on the forums.
All in all, and the present situation included, a fantastic bike which has given us over 50k of trouble free motoring. Would I buy another? most probably though I do like the new Africa Twin !!!

Cheers

Mine is a 2008 on 43000 miles and going up at 10 000 miles per year.

I have had 2 stators and regulators. This is one of the issues with the earlier bikes, the regulator is about £100 and getting a rewound stator is about the same. Problem is you will be walking for a week (or try and find a spare stator).

I had (what seems to be a unique) an issue with a failing fuel pressure sensor. Went through the most common culprits of coils and lambda before working out the issue (it was showing low fuel pressure on GS911 but I did not realise what the pressure should of been). Bike never stopped running but I was using 30% more fuel.

By a DID chain, BMW 17 tooth front sprocket.

There can be a tendancy to stall in traffic but this just needs the idle control valve cleaning and resetting.

I had a 2004 1200GS before this and the 800GS seems more robust mainly because it is simpler.
