My Laverda 750 has been sat in the back of the garage for at least 5 years

(I know its a sin but one sunday school never prepared me for)

Any way when I started to strip the backend out today I found that the monoshock unit, originaly of an FZ1000 had sheared at the far end of the damper rod.

Any idea why this has happend?

this is the shock it was originaly built with, I had one in from a chunder ace that was a bit longer and that one also snapped, at the time I dident realise it was endemic and just put this one back in.

No, the frame was built for me by Andy Sidlow. He is going to be my next port of call when he's back next week, just thought I might be able to get some insight first.

The swing arm must come close to the shock under full compression, are you sure the dia of the shock isn't too large :nenau

Shep :bounce1

I have bodged it back together with tyraps and blue tack.

cant see any damage on the swinger that might have been hit by the shock and dont remember any klunks

the tie rod is not the original as they are adjustable stainless jobbies and now adorn the wifes Bandit (girlies get all the best bits)

Run a straight edge between top shock mount and bell crank (bottom shock mount, check for vertical missalignment :nenau

As the rear suspension is relying on the engine for alignment, you've not had a minor prang and bent the engine mounts or assembled the engine / frame plates bolts or spacers wrong causing alignment problems :nenau

There will be something wrong somewhere, very rare in my experience to snap a shock rod

Just stripped the backend out and been over it every which way and it all appears square (machine saw blade) it only fits together one way and its not had a shunt, only done about 2000 miles all up

there is a small mark on the inside of the swinger but I would have thought that it would have had to have some real abuse to snap like that.
