Yesterday I noticed an intermittant front lampf warning. I checked and the headlights and sidelights are all working fine, but today the warning is on all the time. I fitted HIDs about a year ago and an LED sidelight last month and they've all worked fine. I've checked and wiggled all the conenctions and everything looks and seems fine, but the lampf is still there.

Any suggestions?

Hopefully your HIDs are connected via the original bulb connector - unplug them and loose fit a couple of "old fashioned" bulbs, that'll prove if it's one of them. If not, replace the side light bulb with a new one to eliminate that.

False lampf message

I have no lighting mods on my '07 1200 GSA and have been getting this false lampf message intermittently for a while now. Absolutely nothing wrong with my lampfs either.:nenau

I got a couple of lampf's recently with no lamps out (on HID's).

Then, the OE battery just died on me one morning; Luckily on a Saturday and at home.

I fitted an odyssey battery and had a rear lampf for a few miles whilst the rear lights were fine and since then no false messages...

May or may not have anything to do with it.

The bike is measuring voltage/voltage drops/resistance, or summit like that and can sometimes be tricked by dodgy connections into thinking a bulb has blown.

As has been sugested, try a different bulb and also clean up the connections. The rear bulb holder is especially prone to corrosion on my 05 (not sure if 07's are the same?).

Did you gett the LED sidelight off Les?

In his post a few people have mentioned getting lamp warnings after they have fitted one. I think at the moment its only affecting a certain year of bike though, i think....:nenau

Might be an idea to read through the thread, and if you didn't get it from him the thread may be just as useful for extra info.

Had the same Lamf on my 1200GS a couple of months ago. Booked it in at the dealers, and guess what? The morning I started off there it the fault was not showing.....:blast............
Set off anyway to see if it reoccured but once at the dealers they told me that if they wired the bike up to the diagnostic thingy it would give them a 'Fault History'.
True to their word it indicated that the fault was an intermitant loose conection of the rear light. Not enough to make the light fail, but enough to show a voltage drop.
They replaced the rear light unit complete and the fault did not reoccur. :clap

LAMP

Just to be clear:mmmm

Display will show LAMPF for a defective, low beam, high beam, sidelight or indicator bulb.

Display will show LAMPR for a defective rear tail or stoplight bulb.

Display will show LAMPS if a combination of any of the above two should happen.

May be the sidelamp.

These LED's are luxion which dim in brightness over time. I used to sell them for the 1150's but couldn't get any that that work on the 1200 for a sustained period (these were 1.5W ones but they use less as time goes on).

I use a 3w one now but it was expensive.

My money is on a faulty brake/tail lighty bulb :bounce1

.

And it seems to be the 07 model

Both myself and Si Johnston have had this happen only days apart on our 08 F800GS's. Both of us have HID's fitted. In both cases there was nothing wrong with the lights

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll try them out and report back.

Just to clarify, my rear light is an LED from Nippy Norman (installed nearly four years ago) and my sidelight is an LED from Les W, installed last month. My bike is an 04 GS. I had assumed 'lampf' meant 'lamp failure', so armed with my new knowledge, I frequently get a false lampr on starting, but this always disappears if I switch off and re-start.

After RTFM, I see that there is a LAMPR LAMPF and LAMPS
BTW , a few months ago, I regularly suffered LAMPR and indeed the brake tail light bulb had failed. Replacing the bulb did not sort this and it was evident that the bulb was not contacting well enough to its contact holder I added a few blobs of fresh solder to the bulb itself. Maybe I had duff bulbs. Wacky but it worked

It was the LED sidelight. Replaced the original bulb and all's well. Thanks again for the suggestions and support! :clap

Rear Lamp unit

The rear Stop/Tail unit is pretty much open to the elements , clean the connectors . Theres been quite a few posts on this one.

Even i can do this one. So i has to be simple. And ,,,,,no bits left over !.

JPD, I've had front lamp problems for about a year now, BMW tell me there is no problem... but a couple of days after the service it pops up again. Aftre a lot of messing about I have found a faulty connection in the triple connector comming from the main loom that connects to the lights under the speedo. Now when I have a problem with the lights not comming on I press the conectore and all is fine for a few days... not perfect but it works.
