False neutrals...?

Over the past 10 days, I've been experiencing quite a few false neutrals. Just wondering whether this is a symptom of a bigger problem about to land on me (... another one that is ...).

I should say that I usually upshift without the clutch after 2nd. With this bike, I always have done since the initial service, so there's nothing new there. I have, from time to time, experienced false neutrals, but usually from 5th to 6th and I suspect it is my own fault for not being firm enough with the boot.

However, now I am getting them in a number of gears and usually when pressing on under hard acceleration. Resulting in one or two somewhat 'hairy' moments too!

The bike is an '05 GS with over 28k on the clock and I have owned it from new.

Any ideas?

When I had similar problems on 1150's the dealer recommended that the gearbox oil be changed every 6k service instead of the normal 12k one. Seemed to do the trick for me :)

Check the gear lever pivot is free and the lever is moving easily, it can be a cause of similar problems on 1150's.

I had the same problems - fluffed gear changes, false neutrals - and imagined expensive gearbox problems. Then lubricated the grear change lever and normal service was resumed. Worth looking at as an easy fix before investigating further if the problem remains.

I have noticed similar symtoms of late, thanks guys I fully intend given my gear lever shaft a serious greasing tomorrow !
