Hi,

I'm looking for a Tank Bag that's not too huge, is easy to fit, waterproof and functional enough to hold things like an MP3 player, mobile phone, passport, wallet, disk lock, SLR camera or small video recorder.

I'm not keen on Baglux and the BMW bag looks HUGE (I don't want to sleep in it!)

Has anyone got a view on what the FAMSA tank bags are like? On the face of it they seem OK but I haven't physically seen one. e-Bay have got 'em for sale at around £80.

Are they :-
Waterproof?
Easy to fit and remove?
Capable of holding items above?

Would welcome comments. :nenau

I have found Held luggage to be really good quality. They are also honest about the water resistance of their kit.

Have a look here;
Held

I bought the Task bag last year and it has never let in any water.

Looks Good. Which specific one did you go for?
Will they all fit an R1200GS?
Did you buy a a raincover too or doesn't it really need one?

I got the Task to use as a tailpack which is waterproof. It rained most of the way to the Moto GP in Le Mans last year and all of the way back and the contents kept dry.

I have just ordered the turano for my wife's bike to use as a tankbag. Held recommend a rain cover for complete waterproofing.

Turano

Both these use the Held vario mounting system. Bases are available with magnets, straps etc for mounting on various tanks.

I also buy from retailers in Germany. They are significantly cheaper than the UK. Strangely shipping is not much different either.

My comments make me sound like I am a Held Salesman. I'm sure there are plenty of other really good manufacturers of luggage out there, but, I have always found Held to be really good quality so stayed with them. Their gloves are great too.

Thanks Monkey.

Have checked out the Held web site. Can you order through them? :nenau
No obvious "Check Out Basket" or prices that I can see and German's not my strong point!

German beer's good tho'!

Famsa

I have a Famsa bag for my 1200GS.
It is a reasonable size, seems waterproof but comes with a rain cover too.
Has 3 side pockets, clear map pocket(could be bigger) and fits on easily, but it can be fiddly if you cant see the end of the zip when putting it on to the base.
I would recommend it.

Oops! HUGE assumption made.
R1200GS - Is there much else worth having?? :bounce1

Yes, an 1100GS. The best ever...

And yes, I have a Famsa tanks bag and is excellent...

And forget ebay. Contact Caveman. Much better value. I paid around 70 for mine
